Contractors were on site Monday morning after a lightning strike damaged a building in Minersville over the weekend.
The incident occurred around 2:00am, Sunday morning, as heavy rain and storms pushed through the area. Many Minersville residents reported on social media that they were woken up by a loud crack and flash of lightning during the storm.
The next morning, damage was visible to the top of the Linkbank at the intersection Sunbury and 3rd Streets.
A stone section was visibly missing from building's pillar and a window was also blown out. It was believed the lightning struck just below the weathervane.
According to Minersville Borough Manager Bobby Mahalchick, contractors were on site Monday morning. The sidewalk will be closed until repairs are made.
