Anthony “Buddy” V. Bowers, Jr., 75, of Mahanoy City, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 5, 2023.

Born in Shenandoah Heights, PA on December 1, 1947, Anthony was the son of the late Ruth (Gardner) and Anthony V. Bowers, Sr. He grew up in the West Taghkanic, New York area for part of his childhood. However, he lived most of his life in Boston Run and Mahanoy City.

Anthony worked primarily as a self-employed electrical contractor and as an electrician at a manufacturing facility just before retirement. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Zachary and Grace. He liked fishing, camping, watching television, storytelling, and spending time with family and friends.

Anthony was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Bowers, his former spouse Betty Alsvan, and his grandson Zachary. He is survived by his sister, Janet Reckalitis of Schuylkill Haven; a daughter, Betty-Jo Bowers, Lancaster, and son Anthony V. Bowers, III, Mahanoy City. Anthony is also survived by his granddaughter, Grace, Lancaster, and numerous nephews and nieces.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa of Calcutta parish in Mahanoy City on Thursday, July 13th, at 10 AM with Father Kevin Gallagher officiating. Friends and family may call starting at 9 AM for a viewing at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

William F. Novack
, 71, of Stump Lane, Pine Grove, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Tremont Health & Rehab Center.

Born on August 5, 1951 in Pottsville, he was a son of the late John P. Sr. and Mary Jean Smith Novack.

William was a Truck Driver and last worked for Hess Ready Mix Concrete in Schuylkill Haven as a Cement Truck Driver.

He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove.

William was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 37 years, Tonya T. Kimmel Novack on Feb. 15, 2023.

Surviving are a son, Kyle Novack of Pine Grove; a brother John Jr. of Pottsville, two sisters, Debbie of Cressona and Lisa of Minersville; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove, with Pastor Brian Beissel officiating. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA, 18 Wertz Dr., Pine Grove, Pa. 17963 in his memory.

Pauline M. Edwards
, 100 years of age, of Lake Hauto Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 6, 2023, while in the tender care of her daughter Carol Ann Carroll and her husband David.

Born Saturday, October 21, 1922 in Corona, New York. The daughter of the late Elias, and Philipina (Fabiano) Mourry. Pauline was also predeceased by; husband, Clark C. Edwards; son, Thomas Paul Edwards; daughters, Joan Dawson, Phyllis Mardorf; grandson, Richard Mordorf; sister, Grace Healey; brothers, James, and Anthony Mourry.

In addition to her daughter, Pauline is survived by 3 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren.

Catholic by faith, Pauline had worked at the Nesquehoning Lamp Factory. She liked to crochet, and enjoyed attending the Tamaqua Adult Day Care. Pauline was a talented artist.

Mary C. Dannenfelser
, beloved mother, sister, doting grandmother, 67 years of age, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the home of her daughter in Brockton, Pennsylvania.

Born Friday, June 8, 1956 in New Jersey the daughter of the late Joseph, and Dorothy (Clarke) Geary. Mary was also predeceased by; husband, Frederick Dannenfelser; brother, Denis Geary.

Surviving are; daughter and caregiver, Gabrielle Dannenfelser with whom she resided; son, Daniel Dannenfelser; sisters, Dorothy Pederson, Eilleen Shauger, Bertha Geary; brother Michael Geary and his wife Karen; 5 grandchildren.

An avid reader, Mary was a loving mother, beloved sister, and proud grandmother.

Luther L. "Lou" Wolff
, 68, of Tremont passed away Wednesday night, July 5, 2023 at his home.

Born in Tremont, November 11, 1954, a son of the late Ernest and Naomi Seitz Wolff. Lou was a 1972 graduate of Pine Grove High School.

He retired from United Metal, where he worked as a welder. Following retirement, he worked as a teacher's aid at the Schuylkill Technology Center - a job he thoroughly enjoyed.

Lou could often be found shooting sporting clays and working on and detailing cars. He was well known for smoking deer meat and giving it out to his family and friends. He also adored his two dogs, Bo and Archie. Above all else, Lou's family was the center of his world. He was his grandchildren's biggest supporter, never missing an event they were involved with. His love for his great grandson was second to none.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernie, Rick, and Gurney.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Elizabeth A. Reidler Wolff, to whom they celebrated 50 years of marriage on December 9; two sons, Luther Jr. (Bessy), Florida, and Allen (Nicole), Tremont; his five grandchildren he adored, Nicolle, Jack, Melody, AJ, and Nicholas; his great grandson, Remington; four sisters, Ruthie, Carol, Gail, and Cindy; one brother, Bruce; numerous nieces and nephews.

Following Lou's wishes, there will be no formal services.

Our beloved mother Jean E. Parnell, 94, of Girardville, surrounded by her loving family, was whisked away on the wings of angels to sit at the feet of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday July 5th at Serenity Gardens-Kulpmont.

Born in Pitman on December 25, 1928 she was the daughter to the late Mary (Snyder) and George Maurer.

Jean was the wife of George Parnell who passed in 1996.

Jean worked for 39 years at City Shirt in Frackville until the age of 79, which she was very proud of.

She was of the Protestant faith.

Jean was proud of her cooking and canning skills and she always had a well-stocked basement of home canned treats. She was an excellent baker, known especially for her famous Watergate cake and Jewish apple cake. She always made sure her family had plenty to eat. Jean made many friends at Serenity Gardens and enjoyed the activities, especially bingo. The staff became like family to her. We would like to thank all the staff including personal care, dietary department, activities, and housekeeping. They made her stay there a safe and happy experience. We would also like to thank Advantage Home Health and Hospice for caring for our mom in her time of need.

Jean was the last member of her immediate family preceded in death by siblings; George, Peter, Mae and Bill.

She is survived by; 6 children; daughter Georgine Parnell, Girardville; daughter Mary Ann Stutzman (Donald), Hegins; son George Parnell (Lorraine), Ashland; son Shawn Parnell, Girardville; daughter Jane Dougherty, Frackville; son James Parnell, Girardville; 3 grandsons; George Parnell; Patrick Parnell; John Dougherty; great grandson Jacob Parnell; great granddaughter Brittany Parnell; nieces & nephews.

Services and burial will be private at the family’s request.

Ronald W James, age 74, of Ridge Road, Pitman, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Penn State Milton S Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.

He was born on Thursday, August 26, 1948, in Millersburg, a son of the late Marlin James and the late Mary (Hoy) James.

He was a 1967 graduate of MIllersburg High School and also graduated from computer tech school in Philadelphia.

Ron served for seven years in the US Air Force as a Staff Sgt and jet engine mechanic, during which he served thirteen months in Vietnam.

He was a machinist for Keystone Reamer and Tool and than retired from Brubaker Tool Co, both of Millersburg.

He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Pitman; where he served on church council, the endowment fund committee, and was a long time Sunday School teacher.

Ron was an EMT with the Mahantongo Valley Ambulance for thirty-nine years until becoming ill.

He loved music and collecting vinyl albums and also enjoyed watching movies.

He was preceded in death by parents, and by a brother, Marlin James.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Irene (Peifer) James, to whom he was married for 47 years.

He is also survived by a son, Jason W James of Pitman; brother, Robert James of Halifax; mother in law, Martha Peifer of Pitman; sister in law, Freda James of Halifax; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, Pitman, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating.

A viewing will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church.

Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Rough and Ready.
