Betty J. Tobash, 95, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away peacefully Friday, July 14, at her residence.

Born April 15, 1928, in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Sadie (Boyer) and Howard Phillips.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her family. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, family was always the most important thing in her life. Her strength and compassion will be missed.

Betty was the widow of Stanley H. Tobash Sr.

She was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven.

She was a graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School and was formerly employed as the North Manheim Twp. tax collector.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Stanley H. Tobash Jr.

Betty is survived by her son, Dr. Phillip Tobash, Pottsville; daughter-in-law, Heidi Tobash, Michigan; grandchildren, Kaitlin Tarconish, wife of Jeffrey, Sinking Spring, Collin Tobash, Frackville, Jairia Williams, wife of Thomas, Michigan, Allison Tobash, Schuylkill Haven, Michel Tobash, Michigan, and Christian Tobash, Washington, D.C.; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Regina Phillips, Orwigsburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:15 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. Interment will follow in St. Ambrose Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven. At the family's request, memorial donations may be forwarded to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Russell T. Hillibush
, age 57, of Mahanoy City, died Friday at his home. 

Born in Shenandoah he was the son of the late Eugene and Shirley (Pritz) Hillibush. He was a 1983 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School and served with the United States Army. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Mahanoy City and had last been employed by Walmart Distribution Center. 

He enjoyed watching pro football and baseball and listening to music. 

He is survived by his wife of 36 years Hye ok (Bae) Hillibush, a brother Ken Hillibush of Shenandoah and a sister Roxanne Gallo of Mahanoy City and 2 nieces Araceli Gonzalez of Texas and Lakelyn Gallo of Mahanoy City. 

 Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Friday morning at 11 AM from Christ Lutheran Church in Mahanoy City. The Rev. Fred T. Crawford will officiate. 

Interment with military honors will follow in Sky View Memorial Park in Hometown. Friends may call at the church on Friday morning beginning at 10 AM until time of service. 

Contributions in his name to Christ Lutheran Church would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the visitation.

Wilbur G. Walters, Jr. 71, of Pottsville passed away unexpectedly on Saturday.

Born in Pottsville, July 29, 1951, he was the son of the late Wilbur Sr. and Betty Douglas Walters.

Wilbur attended Pottsville Area High School. He worked throughout his life at the Walk-in Shoe factory in Schuylkill Haven. After it closed, Wilbur worked at Weis Markets in Pottsville.

In his younger years, Wilbur enjoyed hunting. He also loved playing the lottery.

In addition to his parents, Wilbur is preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth Martin, brother Guy Carl Walters, Dennis Walters, and Gary Walters.

Wilbur is survived by his sister Gail Hoffman wife of Ralph of Pottsville, sister Charlotte Collins wife of Mike of Schuylkill Haven, brothers John and Robert Walters both of Pottsville and sister Cindy Walters companion to Jim of Pottsville along with several nieces and nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday at Grabowski Funeral Home Schuylkill Haven. A visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. Interment will follow on the grounds of Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

Myrna A. Everly, age 84, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Saturday, July 15th, 2023 at Luther Ridge at Seiders Hill in Pottsville.

Born in Bronx, NY on October 3, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Lillian (Cappetta) Kevy.

Myrna worked in the cafeteria at the Schuylkill County VOTEC in Frackville for 19 years, a volunteer at the Pottsville Hospital gift shop, and she was a member of the former St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William J. Everly on November 23, 2020, a brother Robert Kevy in 1991, and two sisters: Veronica "Roni" Kevy in 2007 and Phyllis Kevy in 2013.

Myrna is survived by two sons: Michael Everly and his wife Christina, Pfafftown, NC and Craig Everly and his wife Lori, Pottsville; a grandson Alex Everly, Pottsville; two granddaughters: Cassandra and Ciara Everly, Pfafftown, NC and many cousins.

A Religious Service will be held at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon at 11AM on Friday, July 21st, with Msgr. William Glosser officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday morning from 9:30-11AM at the Funeral Home.

Interment will be private at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Myrna's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105

Joan E. Avenoso
, 90, former Mahanoy City resident, passed away peacefully Thursday night at Seton Manor,

Orwigsburg.

Born in Gilberton, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Violet (Thomas) Evans. She had been employed as a quality control inspector for Morgan Knitting Mills until her retirement.

She was a member of the former St. Canicus Catholic Church where she was a devout member of the choir and is now a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City.

Joan was a 1950 graduate of the former Gilberton High School and was the owner/operator of the former 3 hour Cleaner, Mahanoy City, for several years. She enjoyed spending her free time with her family especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Thomas Evans, niece Susan Berezwick, grand nephew Keith Berezwick and sisters-in-law Helen Evans and Ann Evans.

Joan is survived by her son Michael and his wife Lisa Avenoso, Barnesville; her daughter Patti wife of Jerry Sechrist, Greencastle; her brother Richard Evans, NJ; three grandchildren; Joseph ( Katie ) Tinninis, Jared ( Sasha ) Tinninis and Thomas Avenoso and his companion ( Kristy McCarthy), her four great-grandchildren; Mila, Jordan, Coretta and Ella Tinninis also nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers contributions, in Joan’s name, to the Susan B. and Sgt. Keith T. Berezwick Memorial Education Fund. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 24th from St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City with Rev. Kevin Gallagher, pastor, as the celebrant. Friends are invited to visit at the church on Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Frackville.

Thomas A. Pusavage Jr.
, 77, Frackville passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 17th surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Shenandoah, he was the only son of the late Thomas Pusavage Sr. and Julia (Mikolajczyk) Pusavage. He worked as a pipefitter, boilermaker and welder for the local 524 union out of Scranton until his retirement.

Tom was a 1963 graduate of the former Shenandoah Catholic High School. He went on to graduate from the Williamsport Area Community College, where he learned the trades of his profession.

Tom was a United States Army Veteran having served from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing, camping, jarring fruits and vegetables, working on his old Volkswagens with his father but most of all he enjoyed his time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Tom is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nancy (Zimmerman) Pusavage; his daughter Tasha Pusavage and her companion Sydney, Frackville; his son Thomas Pusavage III and his wife Kathy, Frackville; his grandchildren Jema and Thomas IV.

Services with military honors will be private at the convenience of the family.
