Zachary Tyler Freil
, 28, of Bernville, PA, passed away Friday, August 11th, at St. Joseph Hospital, Reading.

Zack was born in Reading, on January 10, 1995, a son of Shelley Beruck and Charles Freil.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church Mahanoy City.

He graduated from Mahanoy Area High School Class of 2013.

Zack was a beloved son, brother, cousin and friend to everyone. He was a kind, loving, caring and intelligent soul who could have a conversation on any subject. He lit up a room with his gregarious personality. He enjoyed listening to music, traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends and family pets.

Zachary is also survived by two sisters, Bethany Freil, of Ashland; Catherine Reyes, of WA., two brothers, Bradley, of Barnesville; Jacob, of Ashland; and by survived by Maternal Grandmother Shirley Beruck with whom he had a special bond. He is preceded in death by Maternal Grandfather Alfred Beruck, and paternal grandparents Charles Henry and Jane Freil. Also Step Grandmother Carol Middleton.

Religious Service at Christ Lutheran Church, Mahanoy City, at 11 AM on Thursday, August 17th, with Rev. Fred Crawford officiating.

Friend and family may call Thursday from 9 to 11 AM at Christ Lutheran Church.

Interment at German Protestant Cemetery Mahanoy City, PA.

Family prefers donations to Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA.

Joyce M. (Wertley) Szilier
, 98, of Pottsville, passed away Saturday morning at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Tremont, on October 8, 1924, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Estella M. (Miller) Wertley.

She was a 1942 graduate of Tremont High School and a member of St. Patrick R.C.C., Pottsville.

Joyce was a secretary for the United States Federal Government at Indiantown Gap for 32 years, retiring in 1982.

She most enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband, Peter Kurutz in 1993; second husband, Joseph B. Szilier in April 2008; and brother, William Wertley in 2003.

She is survived by daughter, Kathyrn M. Noel, wife of Ronald, of Pottsville; son, Michael D. Kurutz, husband of Anne, of Harrisburg; step-son, George Szilier, husband of Diane, of Norristown; grandchildren: Heather Hable, of Pottville; Rebecca Evans, wife of Chester, of Pottsville; Ryan Kurutz, husband of Emily, of Los Gatos, CA; U.S. Army Major Brent Kurutz, husband of Diana, of Powder Springs, GA; Thomas O’Donnell, husband of Claire, of Washington, DC; LaurenAshley Kurutz, of Harrisburg; great grandchildren: Livia and Logan Hable; Brayden, Corbin, Adalyn Evans; Haddie and Cadence Kurutz; Sam and Max Kurutz; and Rae and Everett O’Donnell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 16th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick R.C.C., 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA with Father Phil Rodgers officiating. A viewing will held at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, from 9:30a.m. until the procession will leave for the church.

Interment will follow in St. John #2 Cemetery, Pottsville.

The family request contributions in Joyce's memory be sent to: St. Patrick Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901.

Helen M. Grossman, 94, of St. Clair, passed away Thursday August 10, 2023, at Luther Ridge at Seiders Hill, Pottsville.

Born in Frackville, April 3, 1929, She was a daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Maley) Walsh.

She was a graduate of St. Clair Area High School and worked at St. Clair 5 & 10.

Helen was very active in volunteering at St. Clair Community events, Nativity BVM High School and Friedensburg Fire Co.

She was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, St. Clair where she was a volunteer in many aspects of the parish including choir, perogie making and a member of the former Rosary Altar Society of St. Mary’s.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Walter L. Grossman; brother Eugene Walsh.

Surviving are 2 daughters Kathleen Egan and her husband Martin of Allentown; Beth Ann Grossman of Jacksonville FL; granddaughter Kaitlyn Egan; a brother-in-law Russell Grossman of Los Angeles, CA; Cousin, Nieces and Nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday August 17, 2023 from St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 250 E. Hancock St. St. Clair, PA 17970 with Msgr. William F. Glosser officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 18105 or St. Clare of Assisi Memorial fund at the above address. Burial will be in Queen of the Universe Cemetery, Pottsville

Thomas M. Drake
, 70, of Williamstown, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the Hershey Medical Center.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, February 10, 1953, a son of the late Harold and Mary Damiano Drake.

Tom was a United States Army Veteran.

He worked as a chef at numerous restaurants throughout his life.

Tom enjoyed watching western movies, listening to country music, cooking, and above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Drake and Shirley Russo and brothers, William Damiano and Edward Drake.

Surviving are his brothers, James Drake (Elizabeth), Williamstown, Robert Drake, Williamstown, and Edward Damiano, New Jersey; nieces and nephews, Tammy, Mary Ellen, James, John, and Thomas; numerous great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will he held on Tuesday, August, 22, 2023 at 11:00 am from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc., Tower City, with Pastor Annette Shutt officiating. Viewing will be held from 10-11 am.

Virginia "Ginny" Rumbel, RN
, peacefully passed away at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community at the age of 70, in the presence of her husband Paul and her brother Ted, on Sunday, August 13th, 2023.

She was born on February 13, 1953, in Danville, Pennsylvania, to her loving parents, Theodore and Millie (Kline) Ambrose, both of whom preceded her in death.

Ginny's life was one of service and dedication, a testament to her compassionate and caring nature. She began her educational journey at North Schuylkill High School and later pursued her passion for nursing, graduating from the Allentown School of Nursing. Her career as a Registered Nurse spanned decades, during which she made a profound impact on the lives of countless patients. She began her journey in various locations throughout the area before settling into a long tenure as an Emergency Room nurse at the former Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Pottsville. Later, she continued her dedicated service as a nursing supervisor at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community until her retirement.

Ginny was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Ringtown and had an adventurous spirit and a love for travel that took her to various tropical destinations.

Ginny is survived by her husband, Paul Rumbel, along with her two children, Rhonda Kuzio of Frackville, and AJ Reczkowski of Massachusetts and by her brother, Ted Ambrose, and his wife Terry of Frackville. Three grandchildren also survive.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the viewing, which will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 16th, 2023. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 7:00 PM, led by Rev. Craig Zimmerman. Ginny will be laid to rest at St. John's Cemetery during private family services.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ringtown Library, reflecting Ginny's commitment to education and community enrichment.

The Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, Inc. is assisting Ginny's family during their time of need.

Glenn F. Donmoyer, 78, of S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 in Meadowview Rehab and Nursing Center, Lafayette Hill, Pa.

Born on June 4, 1945 in Pine Grove, he was a son of the late Stewart H. "Piper" and Bessie Huber Donmoyer.

Glenn was a SP4 in the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War.

He was a 1963 graduate of Pine Grove Area High School and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove.

Glenn was a Printer and worked for Reneer Films.

He was a member of the Pine Grove VFW and the Pine Grove Tulpehocken Rifle and Pistol Club.

Preceding him in death was a brother Jay Roy Donmoyer and a sister Gail Irene Donmoyer.

Surviving are a daughter Crystal and husband Jeff Zimmerman; three grandchildren, Ryan, Chad and Courtney Zimmerman; all of Pine Grove.

All Services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Brian Beissel officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 312 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, PA 17963 in his memory.
