Alverna K. Havrilko, 98, of Shenandoah Heights, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Providence Place Senior Living in Pottsville.
Born in Shenandoah Heights on August 20, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Verna (Deshesky) Witovich and was the last member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, she was preceded by her husband Bernard J. Havrilko in 2014.
The surviving family includes her son, Ronald Havrilko of West Chester, PA, her daughter, Karen McElhattan with her husband Terry of Sinking Spring, PA, 2 step grandchildren – James with wife Helen and Jennifer, 4 step great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Alverna was a graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School in 1943 and McCann School of Business in 1945. She was employed by several offices in Shenandoah, including Davison’s, Sacco’s, and a building contractor. She also worked in Pottsville for the Schuylkill County Department of Public Welfare as a receptionist, switchboard operator, and clerk/typist before retiring. She and her husband, Bernie, enjoyed travels before and after retirement to Florida and many different islands in the Caribbean, but her favorite was Paradise Island in the Bahamas. She was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently the Divine Mercy Parish in Shenandoah.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 19th from 10 to 11am at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah. Scripture services will begin at 11am in the funeral home and will be officiated by Msgr. Ronald Bocian. Burial will immediately follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
Contributions in Alverna’s memory may be made to Divine Mercy Parish in Shenandoah.

George F. Clark, 92, of Minersville, passed away Tuesday, September 12th, while en route to the VA Hospital in Lebanon.
George was born in Minersville, Pa. on November 2, 1930, a son of the late Mary (Kline) and Donald Clark. He was member of the United Methodist Church of Minersville. A graduate of Minersville high School. He served on the U.S.S. Ernest G. Small in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War and had duties in China and the United Nations. George was a retired employee of Eastern Airlines having been with the company for 25 years. George was the Mayor of the Borough of Minersville from 1998-2001. He served as an Executive board Member of The First National Bank of Minersville. He was a member of Cressona Lodge No. 222 Free & Accepted Masons, Minersville Rotary, Mountaineer Hose Company, Harding Gun Club, Muddy Creek Sportsman Club, Black Diamond Navy Club Ship 257, VFW, and the American Legion Post #544.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Roberts.
George is survived by a niece, Jennifer Cheh, and a nephew, Scott Roberts.
All are respectfully invited to attend a Visitation 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 16th at Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc. in Minersville.
A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Karen Paquette officiating. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital www.stjude.org/donate.

Claire A. Williams, 103, of Pine Grove, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, in The Gardens of York Terrace, Pottsville.
Born on January 7, 1920, in Pine Grove Twp., she was a daughter of the late William and Minnie Wenrich Tobias.
She was a 1936 graduate of Pine Grove High School and was the oldest graduate who attended the Pine Grove High School Alumni Banquet this past May. She was a member of the Most Blessed Trinity Parish in Tremont.
Claire worked as a Cafeteria Worker in the Pine Grove School District and then had been employed in the Warping Department at Gold Mills, Inc., Pine Grove.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Edward Williams in 1959; a son, Michael Williams; two infant sons; five sisters, Alma Stahl, Evna "Peggy" Tobias, Marie Richards, Roma Klinger, and Ada Schneck; two brothers, Earl Tobias and Thomas Tobias.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Susan Williams of Catasaqua; two grandchildren, Brittany Williams and Nicholas Williams; nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc. with Father George Kochuparambil officiating. There will be a visitation on Monday, September 18, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Tremont.
The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Michael T. Williams scholarship fund, and send to Susan Williams, 820 Poplar St. Catasaqua, Pa. 18032 in her memory.
