Lynn "Dave" Barry Sr, 80, of Schuylkill Haven passed away Friday afternoon September 15th at his residence.

Born in Reading on May 14, 1943 he was the son of the late Dorothy (Wetten) and Robert Barry Sr.

He attended school in the Reading area and worked various jobs as a laborer.

He was of the Christian faith.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by; sister Joan E. Gardner; sister Beverly Kear; brother Robert Barry Jr.; brother Gene Barry; son Lynn D. Barry Jr.

Lynn is survived by 2 sisters; Kim Suess (Tom) of Reading and Linda Barry of Wyomissing; nieces & nephews.

Services and interment will be held privately.

Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home Inc. 901 Centre Street Ashland, PA 17921 has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Joan Knipe
, 92, a resident of Ringtown, passed away in the comfort of her home on September 23, 2023.

Joan was born in Ringtown on August 1, 1931, a daughter of the late Paul and Ruth (Hinderliter) Stravinsky. She was a graduate of the former RIngtown High School and worked various jobs throughout her lifetime, but was always a homemaker at heart.

She volunteered for over 29 years with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in Pottsville, where she donated countless hours crocheting numerous hats, mittens and lap throws.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon 'Gordy" Knipe in September of 1996. Also preceding her in death was her daughter, Pauline Ann Brocious, a brother Thomas Stravinsky, a sister Rita Hart and a step sister, Betty (Kline) Lindenmuth.

She is survived by her son, Robert Knipe, Ringtown, a son in law, Robert Brocious, Ohio, grandchildren James Brocious and his wife Rachael and Amy, wife of Glen Johnston, along with three great grandchildren, Brianna, wife of ANdrew Hunter, Brennan Brocious and Nate Weisbarth. Nieces and nephews also survive.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 29th at 10 AM at the Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 West Main Street, Ringtown. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 PM and again on Friday morning from 9-10 AM, prior to the service. Joan will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Old White Church Cemetery, immediately following the serivce.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are asked to be made to RSVP of Schuylkill County, 110 E. Laurel Street, Pottsville, PA. 17901.

David Hartz
, 69, of Main Street, Locustdale, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023, at his residence. 

 Born at the former Ashland State Hospital in Fountain Springs, he was the son of the late Harry and Catherine Felegi Hartz. He attend Hummelstown High School, later in 1972, joining the U.S. Marine Corps, during the time of the Vietnam War, as a Travel and Disbursement clerk, earning the U.S. Good Conduct Medal. Dave and his wife, Debbie, operated the D and D CafĂ© in Locustdale until its closing. He also operated Dave’s Coil Cleaning Company for area taverns for many years. Dave was the postmaster at the Girardville Post Office until his retirement. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Independent Church, Locustdale, the Locustdale Fire Company, the Lavelle Fire Company, the Marine Corps League, Ashland V.F.W. Post 7654, and the Good Fellowship Club of Ashland, serving as President for many years. Proudly, he was a coal miner for a time, and one of the builders of the Phoenix Roller Coaster at Knoebels Amusement Park. He and his wife Debbie loved NASCAR, having season tickets at the Pocono Raceway, cheering on Dale Earnhart Sr. Dave loved the Seattle Sea Hawks football team. Preceding him in death was his wife Deborah “Debbie” Guinther Hartz, passing August 10, 2016.

Son: Craig Hartz, and his wife Alicia, Lancaster

Sister: Kathy Horan, Hegins

Grandchildren: Chelsie Hartz Warcola, and her husband Adam, Cole, Cory, and Caden Weinreich, and Bryce Hartz

Great Grandchildren: Bentley, Raelyn, and Ripp Warcola

His faithful dog, Nitro

Many nieces and nephews

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Funeral Service, October 6, 2023, at 7 PM, in the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St. Ashland. Officiating will be Rev. Rose Marquardt, pastor of the Grace Evangelical Independent Church, Locustdale. A visitation will be held from 5 PM until service. Dave will have a funeral service with Marine Corps honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions be made to the Locustdale Fire Company, Firehouse Hill, Locustdale, PA. 17945.
