Grace E. (Messner) Bast, 93, of Williamstown, passed away Friday evening, October 13, 2023, at Providence Place, Pine Grove.
Born in Reinerton, July 20, 1930, a daughter of the late Harry and Annie Workman Messner. She was a 1948 graduate of the former Porter High School.
Grace retired after 35 years of service at Fort Indiantown Gap, where she worked as a computer programmer.
She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Williamstown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bast, 2015, and a brother Frank Messner, 1996.
Surviving are several cousins. Grace is also survived by dear friends, including Randy Russelavage and her caregiver Kevin Perhach.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Tower City. Viewing will be from 10:30-11. Grace will be laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 141 East Street, Williamstown, PA 17098.

Shirley A. Reed, 74, of Main Street Ashland, passed away, Monday, October 9, 2023, at her residence. Born at the former Ashland State Hospital in Fountain Springs, December 28, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Lamar F. and Jean Schaeffer Gross Sr. She was a graduate of the former Ashland High School, class of 1966. After high school, Shirley was employed for the Pennsylvania National Bank, Ashland, Hess’s Department Store, Schuylkill Mall, and later as an administrative assistant for Craig Love Insurance Agency, Mt. Carmel. She was a fan of Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles football, as well as a collector of Carrousel Horses. Shirley was a member of the Grace Independent Evangelical Church, Locustdale. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and other family members. Preceding her in death was a granddaughter Brittany Barnes, a sister Judith Gross, a brother Lamar F. “Red” Gross Jr, and a daughter in law, Peggy Reed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Funeral Service, Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 4 PM, in the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre Street, Ashland. Officiating will be Rev. Rose Marquardt, Pastor of Grace Evangelical Church, Locustdale. Visitation will begin at 2 PM. Memorials may be made to the Grace Evangelical Church, Locustdale, PA 17945.
The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Deanne Mendofik, 77, former Ashland and Frackville resident, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Pottsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Pottsville. Born at the former Ashland Hospital in Fountain Springs, February 8, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Ruth Smith Dietz. She attended the former Ashland High School, and was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and a cook for Longs Luncheonette, Ringtown, until her retirement. Deanne was of the Lutheran faith, and attended the Old White Church in the Ringtown valley.

Son: Robert Long and his wife Sharon, Morea
Brother: Charles “Buddy” Dietz, Ashland.
At the request of family, a private burial service will be held at a later date.
Susan B. Piacenti, 64, of McAdoo, PA, passed away Friday, October 13th, at Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown.
Friends and family may call Saturday October 28th, 9 to 11am at Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home & Crematory Inc.
