Lorraine B. Kurtz, 88, of Shenandoah, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital in Orwigsburg.

Born in Shenandoah on December 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Irene Mencavage.

Lorraine was a 1952 graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School. She then went on to graduate from McCann’s School of Business. She worked as an administrator at the Ashland State Hospital for many years. Through her profession, she then became an officer for the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). Lorraine was a devout member of the former St. George’s Church in Shenandoah. She enjoyed taking trips to the casino. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Kurtz in 1997 and a grandson, David Yashinsky Jr. in 2018.

Surviving family include a son, David Yashinsky – Shenandoah, 3 daughters, Virginia Stone with her husband Rodney – Enola, PA, Diane Stremba – Frackville, and Andrea Jenslowsky – Shenandoah, 4 grandchildren, Delaney Stone, Amber Buehler, Derrick Yashinsky, and Larry Stremba Jr., and 5 great grandchildren.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 9 to 11am at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah. Scripture services will be conducted at 11am. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in Lorraine’s memory may be made to the Hillside SPCA, 51 SPCA Rd, Pottsville, Pa 17901.

Barbara Klinger
, 56, of Main Street, Locustdale, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023, surrounded by her family at her residence. Born in the former Ashland State Hospital, Fountain Springs, November 23, 1966, she was the daughter of the late Gurney and Maryann Hornberger Klinger. She attended the North Schuylkill High School, and had been employed as a Baker for Boyer’s Supermarkets until her retirement. Barbara enjoyed gardening, crafting, and country music, especially Johnny Cash and Alan Jackson. Preceding her in death was a brother, James Klinger.

Daughter: Patti Klinger and her companion, Jesse Burt, Mt. Carmel
Son: Joshua Klinger, Kulpmont
Sister: Jane wife of Fred Herb, Locustdale
Grandchildren: Kirianna, and Rylan Burt

At the request of family, there are no funeral services scheduled at this time.

The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
