Francis J. Towey Jr., 77 of Ashland passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, October 6, 2023. Born in Ashland on July 24, 1946 to the late Francis J. Towey Sr. and Mary Yagielniskie Towey.He was of the Catholic Faith and was a member of Our Lady of Good Council in Gordon and Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Ashland.
Francis graduated from Ashland Area High School in 1964 then joined the Army and was active duty for 2 years during Vietnam era, and continued his service with National Guard for an additional 8 years. Francis moved on to being a heavy equipment operator for construction companies all over the state of Pennsylvania.
Throughout his life he enjoyed being outdoors especially hunting and fishing, spending time with family and friends but his most treasured memories were spent with his wife Mary who he married on February 24, 1979. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren,
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Joey Towey (1968), son Shawn P. Kelly (1995) and son Frankie J. Towey Jr. (2011).
Survived by his lovely wife Mary E. Towey, Daughter Susan Towey and her significant other Jim McGraw of Gordon, Son, Joseph Kelly and his wife Kelly Ann of Coal Township, Daughter Ruth Ann Shilling and husband Kevin of Ashland. Grandchildren Dane Tarantelli (Madeline) of Gordon, Amanda Saltzman (Randy) of Pitman, Samantha Schreffler (Andrew) of Klingerstown, Amber Kelly of Coal Township, Ryan Kelly of Coal Township, Jasmine Moroskie (Tyler) of Elysburg. Great-grandchildren Lyla Schreffler, Dylan Saltzman, Randy Saltzman, Ryker Saltzman, Delaney Saltzman and Harper Schreffler. Brother John Towey and wife Janet of Pitman, sister Mary Lou Johnston of Quakertown; several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 12th at 11:00 AM at Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Ashland. A viewing for family and friends will be from 9:30-11:00 AM on Thursday, October 12th at the church. Interment will be private at the family’s convenience.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Francis (Frankie) J. Towey Jr. to the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation, 216 S. Center St., Pottsville, PA 17901.

Deanne Mendofik, 77, former Ashland resident, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Pottsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Pottsville.
The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Owen D. "Mike" Brommer, 94, of Pine Grove, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 in Providence Place, Pine Grove.
Born on July 20, 1929 in Pine Grove, he was a son of the late Daniel and Beulah Owens Brommer.
He was a 1947 graduate of Pine Grove High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy attaining the rank of Seaman 1st Class.
Owen was a machinist for the former ALCOA in Cressona. He was also a farmer who raised ducks, pigs and cattle and was a school bus driver.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove. He was also a member of the Pine Grove Masonic Lodge #209 F. & A.M., where he was Past Worshipful Master in 1984, the Grundsow Lodge, Roedersville Game and Fish, and a life member of H. H. & L. Fire Co. #1, Pine Grove. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Penn State Nittany Lions football fan.
Preceding him in death were his wife of 64 years, Mae M. Freeman Brommer in 2015; two brothers, Russell Brommer and Clarence S. Brommer; two sisters, Thelma Clements and Mary Ann Daubert.
Surviving are a daughter, Jean and husband David Herring of Schuylkill Haven, a son, John Brommer and wife Dana Paxson of Mt. Gretna; four grandchildren, Emily Herring and husband John Freeman, Matthew and wife Madeline Brommer, Nathan and wife Rachel Herring, Maggie Brommer and husband Luke Roffman; eight great grandchildren, Lewis, Molly, Maebel and Leo Herring, Evelyn and Owen Freeman, Henry and Frederick Brommer; a sister, Jane Brommer of Pine Grove and a brother, James Brommer of Mechanicsburg.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, with Pastor Brian Beissel officiating. There will be a visitation on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 12:30 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. at the Church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Mark's (Brown's) Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to either St. Peter's Lutheran Church General Fund, 312 S. Tulpehocken Street, Pine Grove, Pa. 17963, or Compassus Hospice & Palliative Care, 1001 James Drive Suite B-34, Leesport, PA 19533 in his memory.
