The Schuylkill Technology Center (STC) has announced its successful bid for an equipment grant worth $25,000 from the American Welding Society (AWS).
The grant is earmarked for the acquisition of a cutting-edge MIG Welder, slated to elevate the standards of education in Secondary and Adult Welding classes at the South Campus of Schuylkill Technology Center.
This grant will breathe new life into STC's welding program, according to Doug Del Conte, the Welding Instructor at the institution. Del Conte stated, "The Welding Program will benefit greatly from the American Welding Society's Welding Work Force Grant as we bolster our aging fleet of existing equipment."
The infusion of the MIG Welder will provide STC welding students with invaluable hands-on experience in the realm of pulse Gas Metal Arc Welding, Aluminum Gas Metal Arc Welding, and GTAW, thereby enhancing their proficiency and employability in the welding industry.
Shannon Brennan, the Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) at STC, expressed her enthusiasm for the grant, saying, "This competitive grant award is a tremendous asset to Schuylkill Technology Center, which typically trains 48 secondary and 12 adult students each year. This grant provides STC students with the opportunity to utilize industry-grade equipment."
Upon the successful completion of the STC Welding Program, students will have the chance to sit for the highly regarded AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Certification. This certification is not only valued by prospective employers but also serves as a testament to the quality of educational training provided at STC as students embark on their professional journeys.
