A fire this week at a water company garage in Shenandoah has been ruled accidental.
On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, just before 1:00pm, Schuylkill County 911 received a call for a possible structure fire in the area of 100 North Ferguson Street.
Shenandoah Fire Chief Rick Examitas advised of smoke being visible as he responded, and a working commercial fire was alerted as the fire was found at 110 North Ferguson Street. The structure was a garage owned by Aqua, the borough's water company.
Units from Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, and Frackville all responded to the scene and a 2nd alarm was dispatched for additional manpower. Pottsville's Rapid Intervention Team was also called.
The fire was marked under control within 30 minutes after the initial call and contained to the main fire building.
According to Chief Examitas, Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Trooper Szczyglak and Borough Police investigated the fire and ruled it accidental. The fire was found to have originated from a malfunctioning appliance.
