Three drivers were injured in a pile up on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County late Sunday.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred around 9:50pm in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 near mile marker 118.3 in Cass Township, between Highridge and Frackville.
Troopers say the crash began when Juan Garcia Abreu, 41, of Ashley, PA, driving a Fed Ex tractor trailer, went off the right shoulder for unknown reasons. As he attempted to turn back on the highway, he lost control and overturned the truck and trailer onto its side blocking both northbound lanes.
At the same time, Eseose Oteze, 39, of Chesterfield, VA was traveling directly behind, also in a tractor trailer, crashed into the overturned trailer.
A third vehicle, a Nissan Altima, driven by Rylee Gavlick, 23, of Swoyersville, PA, traveling behind the first two, also crashed into the overturned trailer.
All three drivers were reported to have sustained minor injuries in the crash. Abreu and Gavlick were both transported by Minersville EMS to the hospital for treatment.
Oteze refused treatment.
Interstate 81 was closed from the Minersville Exit to the Frackville Exit, for 6 hours while the scene was cleared. The highway opened around 5:00am, Monday.
Abreu will be cited for the crash.
Responding to the scene were firefighters from Englewood, Frackville, and Minersville.
