The Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville have released the name of a man shot and killed by Shenandoah Police early Monday during a burglary.
According to information released from the Troop L Major Case Team, the incident occurred around 12:38am, Monday when Shenandoah Borough Police and Mahanoy City Police were dispatched to 309 West Coal Street in Shenandoah for a report of a burglary in progress.
Responding officers were met at the scene by the property owner who had video surveillance inside the home, because it was vacant. The property owner saw someone inside wearing a mask and carrying a big knife.
As police were clearing the home, they found a 32-year-old Bryon Scheuring, of Shenandoah, under a bed upstairs. As they were moving the bed, Scheuring lunged at an officer with a machete. A Shenandoah Police officer fired their service weapon striking the person.
The officers rendered aide and called for EMS, but the Scheuring died at the scene and was pronounced at by the Schuylkill County Coroner's Office.
State Police say the investigation into the incident is ongoing with the Schuylkill County District Attorney's Office.
