6-Year-Old in Critical Condition, Multiple Others Injured After Norwegian Township Crash

A child is in critical condition, and five others are injured after a crash near Minersville, on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the two-vehicle crash occurred just before 12:30 pm on Saturday near the intersection of Seltzer Road and New Street in Norwegian Township.

Troopers say the crash occurred as one vehicle was traveling northbound on Seltzer Road while the other was traveling southbound.

The vehicle traveling southbound, driven by a 19-year-old, began to slide around a left-hand curve when the back passenger-side quarter panel struck the front driver-side bumper of the vehicle traveling north.

At the moment of impact, a 6-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. The child was transported to Lehigh Valley Schuylkill East by Schuylkill EMS, then transferred by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest in Allentown. The child was listed in critical condition and was being transferred to CHOP, as of the update from State Police.

Three other passengers in the vehicle with the 19-year-old—a 37-year-old female, a 9-year-old, and a 10-year-old—all sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 60-year-old female, also sustained minor injuries.

All were transported to Lehigh Valley Schuylkill East for evaluation.

Seltzer Road was closed for several hours on Saturday afternoon as the scene was investigated.

State Police did not release the identities of any of the victims of the crash.
