The cause of a fire in Mahanoy City on Sunday afternoon is under investigation.
Just after 12:00pm, Sunday, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 1100 Block of East Centre Street in Mahanoy City for a report of a structure fire. Information relayed to responding firefighters stated the caller reported seeing flames in the upstairs rear room of the home.
Firefighters arrived within minutes of dispatch to find heavy smoke coming from the upstairs windows and a working fire was advised. Once they made entry, a fire was found on the 2nd floor in a rear room.
A quick attack led to the fire being contained to that room only.
The row homes on either side sustained no damage at all.
According to Mahanoy City Fire Lieutenant Dave Truskowsky, the home was currently unoccupied but was believed to be undergoing renovation. Truskowsky also said a State Police Fire Marshal was called to investigate to determine a cause.
