David Horace Hadesty
, 78, of Tamaqua, died on Monday, January 22, 2024, in Coaldale. He was the husband of the late Gayle Hadesty with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage shortly before her death on October 24, 2021. 

Born in Tamaqua on August 2, 1945, David was a son of the late Stanley and Kathryn (Folweiler) Hadesty. A 1964 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he served as a Navy Corpsman during the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart with a Gold Star while attached to a Marine platoon serving in Vietnam. He also was the recipient of a Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze stars and in October 2023 the recipient of the Quilt of Valor from the Quilts of Valor Foundation whose mission is to cover veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. Before his retirement, David was employed as a butcher for the Weis Markets chain. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tamaqua where he had served on the church council. 

David was a member of numerous organizations for which he served as an officer – President and member of the Tamaqua Fire Police; past President and member of American Hose Co. # 1, Tamaqua; member of Tamaqua American Legion, C.H. Bery Post # 173; member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter #529; and past President and member of the Tamaqua Band Boosters. 

He is survived by sons, David C. Hadesty and his wife Ann Marie, Dale Hadesty and his wife Lori, and Dana Hadesty and his wife Heather all of Tamaqua; grandchildren, Matthew Hadesty and his wife Karina, Jonathan Hadesty and his wife Alissa, Amy Hadesty, Joshua Hadesty, and Amy Bachert and her fiancĂ© Dylan Tower; brother, Richard Hadesty and his wife Judy of Tamaqua; sister, Nancy Lesisko and her husband Leo of New Ringgold; and many nephews and nieces. 

Dave was predeceased by a grandson, Eric Bachert; brothers, James, Donald, Raymond, Alfred, and Thomas; and sisters, Eleanor Hadesty and Marie Howells. 

Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 29, in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 Mauch Chunk Street, Tamaqua with The Rev. Dillon Epler officiating. 

Interment in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Patterson Street, Tamaqua will follow the services. Call Sunday from 6 to 8 PM at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad Street, Tamaqua and from 10 to 11 AM on Monday in the church.

Paul David Schaeffer, Jr.
, 62, of Ephrata, passed away Friday, January 19th, at his residence.

Born in Pottsville, PA on February 6, 1961, he was a son of the late Paul D. Schaeffer, Sr. & Lois A. (Dewald) Schaeffer.

He attended Schuylkill Haven High School, and served in the U.S. Army.

Dave was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Schuylkill Haven.

He was currently employed by Walmart in Ephrata as a shelf stocker.

Dave was a member of the American Legion Post #38, Schuylkill Haven.

He is survived by two sisters: Susan Miller (Ricky), & Sandra Quinter (Bill), all of Schuylkill Haven, and nieces, & nephews.

Interment service with military honors will be held Friday, February 2nd at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at 11 AM with Rev. Ted Rathman officiating.

At the family's request, memorial donations may be forwarded to Grace Evanglical Congregational Church, 151 Earl Stoyer Dr., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.

Mr. William L. Paul
, age 89, of Morea, passed away Monday morning at Pottsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. 

Born at the former Locust Mountain Hospital, he was the son of the late William H. and Mary Paul. He was a 1952 graduate of Mahanoy City High School, earned a general certificate through the American Institute of Banking, American Bankers Association who in 1984 awarded him a presidential citation for his efforts to enhance the image and business of banking. He was an Army veteran inducted in 1957 and an Army Reservist retiring in 1994. He was an inspector and instructor for the 2091st USARF School in Scranton, and First Sergeant of the 310 Transportation Company in Reading. He hand been employed by Pennsylvania National Bank, Keystone Financial and M & T Bank retiring as vice president and manager of the Mahanoy City branch. 

Active in many civic and fraternal organizations he held memberships and leadership positions in the following: First Presbyterian Church, Mahanoy Area Chamber of Commerce, Mahanoy City Library, American Legion Post 74, United Veterans of Mahanoy City, F A & M 357, Mahanoy City Fireman's Relief, Schuylkill United Way, TPA, American Institute of Banking Anthracite Chapter, POW/MIA Committee American Legion, BPOE 695 who awarded him Citizen of the Year in 1990, Lions Club and was past president and Chief Ambulance Director with the Citizens Fire Company # 2 and Mahanoy City Community Ambulance. 

Preceding him in death were his daughters Donna and Lori and a grandson Thomas Andrusichen and a sister Jean Jones.  

He is survived by his wife the former Jane Brinsko and 3 grandchildren Jasmine, Angelique and Dylan. 

 Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Friday morning at 11 AM from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City. The Rev. Robert Adams will officiate. Military Honors will be held at the funeral home following the service. 

 Interment will be private and Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning beginning at 9:30 AM. 

Contributions in his name the Citizens Fire Company or the Mahanoy City Public Library would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the visitation.

Elizabeth Carmelia “Bettsy” Hadesty
, 79, beloved mother and grandmother, of Tamaqua, died on Monday, January 22, 2024, in Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Donald S. Hadesty. They were married 41 years at the time of his death on September 4, 2010. 

Born in Mahanoy City on April 9, 1944, Bettsy was raised in Lakeside Barnesville. She was the daughter of the late John and Aseneth (Hudson) Horan. A 1961 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School, she continued her education at McCann’s School of Business. Together, Bettsy and Donald went on to establish their business Tamaqua TV and Appliances in 1973. Lastly known as Direct Maytag Home Appliance Center it was in operation until her retirement in 2016. Fifty years later, a division of that business is now run by their children. Bettsy was an active member of the American Primitive Methodist Church, Tamaqua where she served many years on the Trustee Board and assisted in founding the church’s food pantry. 

She was a member of the Gideons International and Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network and a long time past member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Having been a business owner, Bettsy was well known in her community. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. An avid paper crafter, Bettsy’s favorite pastime was spent in her craft room making beautiful handmade cards that she sold locally. 

Bettsy is survived by daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Job and her husband Francis of Barnesville; son, Christian “Chris” Hadesty and his wife Bridget of Tamaqua; grandchildren, Mason G. Job, Audrey F. Job, and Anna J. Hadesty; brothers, Thomas Horan of Rush Township and John Horan and his wife Martha of Hershey; and numerous nephews and nieces. 

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Donald S. Hadesty, Jr. who passed away in 1974. 

Services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 27, at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with Pastor Rick Clemson officiating. Interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua will follow the services. Call from 6-9 PM on Friday and from 9-10 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Primitive Methodist Church, 55 Hunter Street, Tamaqua, PA 18252.

Ronnie W. Kroh
, 48, of Hegins, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday evening, January 22, 2024.

Born in Pottsville, June 15, 1975. He was the son of Richard A. Kroh and Margaret Kutsey Kroh. He attended Pine Grove Area School District.

He was previously employed at Coal Contractors as an operator. Ronnie enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed being "Big Pap" to his five grandchildren. He loved working with his hands - you could often find him wrenching or breaking something. His other interests included tinkering and shooting pool. A passion for collecting new antiques took Ronnie to various locations. Ronnie always saw value in everything, just ask his son Zack to see his basement, shed, or barn.

Ronnie will be remembered for his sense of humor and quick-witted comebacks and comments. Always willing to help anyone with a need, Ronnie will be missed.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Andy and Jean Lucas Kroh, a brother, Richie Kroh, Jr., and a nephew, Austin Kroh.

Surviving are his companion, Patricia Hellinger, Pine Grove; his estranged wife, Rebecca Miller Kroh, Donaldson; his father, Richard Kroh and his wife Donna, Joliett; his mother, Margaret Kutsey Kroh, Tremont; a brother, Dwayne Kroh and his wife Mayanna, Pine Grove; Ronnie's children, Zachary Kroh, Lacey Kroh, Cody Kroh, and Colton Kroh; his bonus daughters, Stephanie and Tessa Hellinger, Pine Grove; his grandchildren by Lacey with her fiancée John Rumbel - Noah, Noel, Raegan, and Ridge Rumbel; his grandson by Zachary - Clyde Kroh; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Ronnie's Life will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 12:00 PM from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Tower City. Visitation will be from 9-12 at the chapel.

Mary A. (Memaw) Snyder
, 80, former Tremont resident, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Tremont Nursing Center. Born in Pottsville, August 11, 1943, she was the daughter of Russell and Dorothy Hoffman Krobert. She attended Pottsville High School, and was employed at area clothing factories, retiring in 1978 from Cressona Knit Products. Mary was of the Lutheran faith. Mary loved being around her family, her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They were her world. Preceding her in death was her husband, Thomas Snyder, passing December 1, 2010, sons, Kermit, Russell, Thomas J., Randall, sisters, Gloria Jean Krobert, and Nancy Neiswinter, and a brother Joseph Krobert.
