Francis Lewis Hill
, 70, of South Tamaqua, died on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at home. He was the husband of Susan (Brown) Hill to whom he would have been married 50 years this coming March. 

Born in Carlisle on June 26, 1953, Francis was a son of the late Francis Joseph and Vivian H. (Bachert) Hill. A 1971 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he was employed by the former Atlas Powder Company, Reynolds. Francis had also worked part-time for Spare Time Bowling in Hometown and the Mazaika Coal Company, Rush Township. Raised in the Catholic faith, he attended the former St. Jerome Catholic Church. Francis enjoyed fishing and was an avid Eagles fan. A bowler of many years, he enjoyed going to tournaments and a bowling alley is where he and Susan met. Most important to Francis was taking care of his family. 

He is survived by sons, Francis A. Hill and his wife Lisa of Tamaqua and Matthew L. Hill and his wife Crystal of Tamaqua; daughter, Melissa Wilmot of Tamaqua; 10 grandchildren; brother, Robert Hill and his wife, Brenda of Tuscarora; sister, Patricia Killian and her husband, Ned of Orwigsburg; and several nephews and nieces. 

Francis was predeceased by son-in-law, Jeremy Wilmot and sisters, Susan Johnson, Deborah Chrobak, and Amy Einhouse. 

Services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 30 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Interment in Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown will follow the services. Call from 6-8 PM on Monday and from 9-10 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home. 

Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.

Madeline A. Trakes
of Mahanoy City, was called home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2024 at the Manor at St. Luke's Village in Hazleton. 

Born in W. Mahanoy Township she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Rose (Wysoski) Putalonis. She was a 1950 graduate of West Mahanoy Township High School and a 1953 graduate of the Ashland Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City and the Catholic Nurses Association. She began her nursing career at Somerville Hospital in New Jersey and after returning to Pennsylvania she was a nurse for Dr. Davidson, the Mahanoy City Visiting Nurse Association and retired with 25 years of service as a Pennsylvania State Health Nurse. She loved to travel with her husband and visited many ski areas around the world with him. 

Preceding her in death were her husband Robert A. Trakes in 2015, an infant daughter Mary, her son Robert and a brother Charles Putalonis. 

She leaves behind her daughter Kathleen Miller and her husband Michael of Tamaqua, grandchildren Michael Miller and his wife Sara of Pembroke, MA, and Samantha Monck and her husband Oliver of Ashland, a great Grandson Noah Miller and her beloved cat Buddy. 

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral on Saturday February 3rd at 10:30 AM from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City. The Rev. Cindy White will officiate. 

Interment will follow at Sky View Memorial Park in Hometown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning beginning at 9 AM. 

Contributions in her name to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 101 Greenwood Street, Tamaqua, PA 18252 would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the visitation.

Ronald R. Hatter
, 65, of Jonestown, formerly of Donaldson, passed away January 13, 2024 at his home.

Born in Pottsville, September 20, 1958, a son of Merwin Hatter, Donaldson and the late Nancy Miller Hatter. Ron was a 1976 graduate of Pine Grove High School.

He worked for the former Penn Dye, Pine Grove for over 30 years, retiring several years ago from TYCO, Lickdale.

Ron enjoyed taking his daily walks to the local mini-market.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife Emily and his twin brother, Donald.

Surviving in addition to his father are a son, Shannon Hatter, Jonestown; two brothers, Gary Hatter and his wife Sally, Donaldson and Mark Hatter and his wife Pam, Tremont; several nieces and nephews.

Ron will be laid to rest privately in the Donaldson Community Cemetery with Pastor Amanda Bressler officiating.

The Dimon Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Tower City is honored to serve the Hatter family.

Nancy L. Phillips
, 87, of Shenandoah Heights passed away Thursday morning January 25th at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill East.

Born in Northumberland County on May 25, 1936 she was the daughter of Alma Neidlinger.

Nancy graduated from Ashland High School in 1954.

She was the wife of the late L. Olin Phillips who passed away in 1996.

Nancy was of the Protestant faith was a member of the former First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah.

She was last employed by Kmart as clerk, prior to that she worked for the Ashland Daily News.

Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by; brother Leroy Neidlinger; sister in law Eleanor Neidlinger; beloved canine Bella.

Nancy is survived by; daughter Beth Phillips (Guy Anewalt), Lehighton; daughter Arba Phillips (Joseph Cescon), Shenandoah Heights; grandson Kyle Phillips, Harrisburg.

Commital services will be held privately at the family’s request.

Rickie Hummel, 66, of Helfenstein, passed away, Thursday evening, with family by his side, at his residence. 

The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, will announce funeral arrangements.

Helen A. Frey
, 99, of Lehighton, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, January 26, 2024. She was the wife of the late Ralph D. Frey. They were married for 72 years until his passing on September 24, 2013. She was a devoted housewife, mother, and grandmother. 

Born in Mantzville, she was the daughter of the late Daniel M. and Verna M. (Mantz) Miller. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church, West Penn, a former member of the church’s L.C.W., the Retirees, and a member of Mahoning Valley Fire Co. Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, word puzzles, walking, and playing cards. 

She was also preceded in death by granddaughter, Diane Hunsicker, daughter-in-law, Kathy Frey, two brothers, Willard and Berlyn, sisters, Marian Weaver, and Eldora Rex. Surviving, son Robert, of Lehighton; four daughters, Carol, wife of James Beers of Schnecksville, Ruth Ann, wife of Robert Wehr of Andreas, Laverne, wife of Merle Hunsicker, and her caregiver, Marjorie, wife of Dennis Hallman, both of Lehighton; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. 

Services will be private, with Rev. Glenn Rarick officiating. Private interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Church, West Penn, 184 St. Peter’s Road, Tamaqua, PA 18252. 

Arrangements are being handled by the Hartman Funeral Home, 1791 West Penn Pike, Rte. 309, New Ringgold.
