With a fresh Schuylkill League matchup, the stage was set for the Boys Basketball Semifinal battle between the Pottsville Area Crimson Tide and the undefeated Mahanoy Area Golden Bears.
From the tip-off, Mahanoy Area came out with a blistering start, going on a 7-0 run before Pottsville could find their footing, finally getting on the scoreboard with 4:10 remaining in the first quarter. By the end of the opening quarter, Mahanoy Area held a commanding 17-7 lead, setting the tone for the game.
Despite efforts from Pottsville to mount a comeback, Mahanoy Area maintained their lead, heading into halftime with a 26-18 advantage. The Golden Bears continued to assert their dominance throughout the game, extending their lead to 41-28 by the end of the third quarter.
Ultimately, Mahanoy Area emerged victorious with a final score of 57-40, securing their spot in the Boys Schuylkill League Championship on Friday against Blue Mountain.
Leading the charge for Mahanoy Area were standout performers Zawada, Cuff, and Yedsena, who contributed 16, 12, and 12 points respectively, showcasing their offensive skill. Their aggressive defense should not go unnoted.
Although Pottsville Area fought hard, they fell short in their bid for victory. Montone and Alvarez led the scoring effort for the Crimson Tide, each contributing 11 points, while Becker added 9 points to the tally.
With this win, Mahanoy Area advances to the championship round, where they will face off against Blue Mountain in what promises to be an electrifying matchup.
Meanwhile, Pottsville Area will shift their focus to the District XI Class 3A playoffs next week, aiming to bounce back from this defeat and make a strong postseason run.
