A 1942 graduate of Tamaqua High School, Phyllis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Albright College in 1946. Before retiring in 1981, she was employed by the former Atlas Powder Company, later ICI Americas, as an analytical chemist and manager of product development and advertising. She also served as the 33rd president of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists. Phyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tamaqua. She began serving as a director for the Tamaqua Public Library in 1981, where she also served on the Library Endowment Fund.
She is survived by a niece, Nancy Reese and her husband William and their children, Douglas Reese (Melissa), Christine Butler (Richard), and Karen Reese, and a nephew, Thomas S. Carter and his children, Charles H. Carter III (Tammy), Peter Carter (Jennifer), and Laura Crawford (Peter) as well as 10 great-grand nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was predeceased by a brother, Charles H. Carter, Jr., in 2017.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, February 18, 2024, in the First United Methodist Church, 124 West Broad Street, Tamaqua with Pastor Deb Forney officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.
Alan R. Barron, 78 of Coaldale passed away Tuesday February 6, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital - Carbon Campus, Lehighton.
Born in Coaldale February 24, 1945 he was a son of the late Clarence and Helen (Laudenslager) Barron.
A graduate of Tamaqua High School, Alan worked as a Machine Operator.
Surviving are his 2 sons Scott Barron and his wife Colleen of Northhumperland, Chad Barron, 3 grandchildren Daylon, Carson and Nicholas, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Gerald and sister Barbra.
Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Born in Danville on August 27, 1983 he was the son of Edward J. O’Donnell Jr. and the late Mary Beth (Courtney) O’Donnell.
Eddie was of the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Ashland. He graduated from Cardinal Brennan High School in 2001 and Schuylkill Institute of Business & Technology.
He was last employed as a computer analyst for Geisinger. In addition to being a black belt in karate, Eddie enjoyed collecting coins and playing piano.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by; uncle Shawn O’Donnell; aunt Kathleen Campomizzi RN; maternal grandparents James & Elizabeth Courtnye; paternal grandfather Edward J. O’Donnell Sr.
Eddie is survived by; father Edward J. O’Donnell Jr.(Hawa), Ashland; paternal grandmother Ruth Ann O’Donnell, Frackville; sister Kayla O’Donnell (Andrew Hubler), Ashland; nieces Kiara Lutz and Sophia Hubler; aunts, uncles & cousins.
Services will be announced at a later date this spring.

Sophia was born in Pottsville, on November 24, 1923, a daughter of the late Magdaline (Korslevat ) and Paul Yanchick .
She was the widow of Paul Edison Gambill. he passed away July 11th, 2015.
During her life she was employed as a Bus Driver at the IU School in Pottsville. She practiced the Lutheran faith. In addition to her family, her joys in life were shopping and Bingo.
Sophia is survived by two daughters, Ruth Shadle, of Pine Grove, PA and Gail, wife of John Morris, of The Woodlands, TX.
Sophia is also survived by her grandchildren Denise, wife of Jim Felty; Kelly and Jack Morris; two great grandchildren Devon Young and Nathan Felty; and two great great grandsons Mason Young and Maverick Goul. Sophia is also survived be several nieces and nephews.
Bernard C. Markey, age 88, of Boiling Springs, PA died February 5, 2024.
Glenn E. Ney, 69, of Muir passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 8, 2024 at his home.
Born in Harrisburg, January 16, 1955, a son of the late Allen and Helen Hoover Ney. Glenn attended Williams Valley High School.
He was a proud United States Army veteran, serving as a first sergeant. His military service took him across the world, spending time in Hawaii, Louisiana, Germany, Kentucky, and Alaska. He retired from the Army following 20 years of service.
After retiring, his passion for the outdoors brought him to open up his own business, Glenn's Archery and Fish Producing Shop. He took great pride in his business and looked forward to his customers and friends coming to visit the shop. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing taxidermy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Kadian Tige Mann and Talen Luth Ney; three brothers, Robert Ney, Edward Ney, and James Nye; two sisters, Jean McCready and Barb Felton.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Jody A. Strohecker Ney; three sons, Jason Ney and his wife Lovely, Alaska, Glenn Ney II, Alaska, and Andy Ney and his wife Sue, Wiconisco; five grandchildren, Areiya, Zinnia, Halo, Cheyenne, and Joel Ney; three brothers, Richard Nye, Linglestown, Gary Ney and his wife Connie, Williamstown, and Scott Ney and his wife Patty, Williamstown; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be announced in the near future.
