This funding, included in the recently signed FY24 Appropriations legislation.
The Mt. Laurel Interconnect Project focuses on establishing a connection of the Mount Laurel Reservoir in New Castle Township with the Mahanoy Township Authority (MTA).. An "interconnection" will be built, serving as a hydraulic link between the two public water systems. This initiative seeks to mitigate water scarcity challenges and enhance fire suppression capabilities in the area.
The allocated funding will facilitate various project components, including the design, permitting, and construction of essential infrastructure. This encompasses the establishment of a metering station, a water booster pumping station, and the installation of approximately one mile of pipeline to seamlessly integrate both water systems.
Congressman Dan Meuser said, “I'm happy to have advocated on behalf of the Schuylkill County Municipal Authority to secure $2.75 million for the Mt. Laurel Interconnect Project. This crucial initiative will not only offer supplemental drinking water for the township but also enhance fire protection for neighboring communities in Schuylkill County. Ensuring access to a reliable water source for the residents of Mahanoy Township is paramount, and this federal funding will make certain the water needs of the community are met.”
State Senator David Argall (PA-29th) said, “This project is a perfect example of what can get done thanks to public-private partnerships. Once this expansion is complete, it will improve water service and quality of life for residents AND help bring new employers to the Highridge Business Park and Mahanoy Business Park. I’m thankful these highly competitive funds are supporting this important work.”

State Representative Dane Watro (PA-116th) said, “Having a reliable and efficient water system is so critical for community and economic growth. This project is going to ensure residential customers have clean and ample water for their households and for fire protection.
