Pottsville Celebrates St. Patrick's Day with Annual Parade

On Saturday, the streets of Pottsville came alive with the color green as city residents and visitors gathered to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the city's annual parade.

The festivities kicked prior to the parade with the annual breakfast and a church service at St. Patrick's.

The parade stepped off at noon at 12th Street and wound its way through the city along West Market Street to South 2nd Street, Mahantango Street, and finally down North Centre Street.

Former Mayor James Muldowney served as the grand marshal. In addition, the parade honored several local heroes for their selfless acts of bravery and dedication to the community. Pottsville Fire Chief Jim Misstishin, Pottsville Police Patrolman Mike Hrebik, Yorkville Lt. John Hoffman, and Schuylkill EMS Paramedic Dan Kleeman were recognized for their unwavering commitment to saving lives over the past year.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians proudly carried their flags, and the sound of bagpipes could be heard throughout the city.

Adding to the atmosphere were performances of high school bands from Pottsville Area and North Schuylkill. Joining them were three pipe bands.

Thousands of people lined the streets of Pottsville Saturday showing their pride of the Irish.
