Evelyn Demopulos
of West Penn Township died on February 28, 2024, in Coaldale. 

She was born to her parents Nicholas and Kasandra on March 5, 1931, in Minersville, PA. As a child, Evelyn worked alongside her parents in the family restaurant and was a star player on her high school basketball team. In 1954, Evelyn married the love of her life, Everett. Together, they made a life for themselves in Tamaqua, PA and became the well-known proprietors of Taylor’s Diner for over 30 years; beloved by their employees and customers alike. Nothing gave Evelyn more joy than spending time with her family. Despite her various titles, roles, and memberships throughout life, including Eastern Star, Evelyn was most proud of being a dutiful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 

Predeceased by her husband Everett, Evelyn is survived by her three children Nick Demopulos, Rea Bowe and her husband Jeffrey, and Sondi Pajakinas; her two grandchildren Guy Bowe and his wife Katie, and Bergen Dougherty and her husband Eric; and her two great-grandchildren Jeffrey Bowe and Eve Dougherty. 

Evelyn had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great listener. She expressed immense warmth and possessed a genuine care for others that made her easy to know, and impossible not to love. Evelyn will be greatly missed, though forever in our hearts. 

Memorial donations may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 32 East Ross Street, Wilkes Barre, PA 18701 or The Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, 175 St. Tikhon’s Road, Waymart, PA 18472. Calling Hours will be from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 5, at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.

Jon R. Fisher Sr., 89, of Orwigsburg, passed away Feb. 28 at Renaissance Home Pinebrook, Orwigsburg.

Born Nov. 15, 1934, in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Hiram L. Fisher Jr. and Marian H. (Repp) Fisher.

He married his wife, Anne L. (Geary) Fisher, in 1960.

Jon was a graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School, Class of 1952. He attended Kutztown State Teachers School and graduated in 1956 from Ford Business School, Pottsville, with an accounting degree.

He was employed as the office manager of Ebinger Iron Works; assistant business manager for Muhlenberg School District; business manager for Brandywine Heights and Tulpehocken school districts; and retired as the business manager for Fleetwood School District.

Jon was an active member of First United Church of Christ, Schuylkill Haven, where he served as church treasurer for 14 years and sang in the choir. Jon also served on the consistory, including two terms as president.

He also belonged to the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and served on the Schuylkill Haven school board for eight years, including four years as vice president. Jon was a member of the Schuylkill Haven Lions Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Fisher.

In addition to his wife, Jon is survived by his son, Jon R. Fisher Jr., husband of Penny, Perkasie, Pa.; daughter, Jill G. Cutter, Reading; grandchildren, Carolyn Bausch, wife of Jonathan, Ian Fisher and Jaime and Erin Cutter; great-grandsons, Luke and Micah Bausch; and a brother, Thomas Fisher, Lake Wynonah.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, at First United Church of Christ, Schuylkill Haven. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Private interment will be held in Cressona Cemetery, Cressona. At the family's request, memorial donations in Jon's memory may be sent to Hillside SPCA, P.O. Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901.

Robert B. Antanavage
, 88, Cresswell Gardens, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1st at Providence Place, Pottsville with his loving family at his side.

Born in Connorton, he was a son of the late Bernard and Helen (Laconis) Antanavage.

Robert graduated from Girardville High School. After high school, he served in the United States Navy from 1954 – 1957 during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he went on to study Mechanical Engineering at Penn State University, where he graduated with his Bachelors in June of 1961.

Robert belonged to Saint Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland where he served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He belonged to the Gordon Rifle Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Billy Antanavage, who died shortly after his birth; his brother, Joseph Antanavage.

Robert is survived by his wife Margaret (Rusnak) Antanavage, with whom he married on June 3, 1961; his children: Robert (Rhonda) Antanavage, Susan (John) Pulaski, Joanne (Gerard) Anthony and Diane (Mark) Stafford; his grandchildren Emily, Elizabeth, Matthew, Sarah, Lauren, Helen, Jennifer (Timothy), John (Kellee), Gerard (Caitlin), Michael (Chase), Amanda, Andrew and Mary; his great-grandchildren: Annabelle, Kathryn, Jacob, Harper, Charlotte and Riley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 5th at 11 a.m. from St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland with Rev. Giuseppe Esposito, pastor, as the celebrant. Friends and family are invited to Robert’s viewing at the church on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at 1 p.m.

Leroy Mourer, 79, a resident of Ringtown, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024.

Leroy was born on August 9, 1944, a son on the late Lee and Dolores (Sherman) Mourer.

An avid outdoors person, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, along with spending time with his family.

Leroy was retired from the Tyco Plastics in Ringtown, having been a long time employee for the company since its inception as Yankee Plastics, then Mr. Hanger, A&E Products and finally Tyco. He also recently worked for the Union Township Road Crew.

In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his sister, Phylis Deebel.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diane (Matsko) Mourer, and thier children, David, Leroy and Ellen, and by his granddaughter, Rena.

His brother Lee and his sister Faye Recla also survive. As per Leroys wishes, no public services will be held.

The Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home is assisting Leroy;s family during their time of need.
