On Sunday, the Frackville Little League held an opening day parade and ceremony to kick off their 2024 season.
The event had been postponed from Saturday due to weather and field conditions.
The festivities began at the Arch Street Park where players and parents gathered.
The parade, led by Frackville Police and the Good Will, Englewood, and Altamont Fire Companies, followed Arch Street to Nice Street, then Nice Street to the field.
At the field, prior to the start of the ceremony, the players took part in an Easter Egg Hunt, a tradition the league has kept going over the last 5 years.
With a coaching career spanning two decades, Laurence "Larry" Bennett was chosen for this year's honor for his mark on the landscape of youth sports in the Frackville area.
Bennett dedicated twelve years across all levels of play as part of the Frackville Little League. He led five championship teams to victory, including two for Heaven Scent, two for Knights of Columbus (one of which he co-championed), and one for Skytop. Bennett's team also clinched the District 24 Championship in 1995.
Transitioning to North Schuylkill Softball, Bennett continued to shine, steering his teams to clinch the Schuylkill League Championship twice, with one title being a co-championship.
His four-year tenure with Frackville Teeners (13-14 age group) saw similar success, with his teams securing the Schuylkill League North Division Championship twice.
