Frackville Resident Falls Victim to Computer Scam, Loses Cash to Fake 'Secret Service Agent'

Frackville Police are investigating a fraud incident that began by clicking an ad on a computer and ended with someone showing up at her house for money.

According to Frackville Police, on Friday, April 5, 2024, Borough Police were asked to contact a female complainant residing in the 100 blk of S. Second St. in regard to a possible Fraud report.

Upon making contact, the complainant advised that on Friday, March 29, 2024, a pop-up ad came across her computer telling her to contact Microsoft to resolve an issue and provided a contact number. The following day, the complainant received the same message on her computer and again called the number that popped up on her screen. This time, she was told her computer was hacked and was provided instruction on how to resolve the issue. However, she was also asked questions in regard to how much money was in her bank account and was instructed to withdraw money from her account, which she did.

On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the complainant was again in contact with someone who stated a “secret service agent” would be at her residence to pick up the cash and was provided a “password” to give the this alleged agent.

Aroun 7:30pm on April 3, a silver four door sedan arrived in front of her home and she turned over the cash to a male driver.  The driver was described as having a beard. The vehicle left, traveling north on S. Second St.
