Ashland and Girardville's Fire Chiefs are working with the American Red Cross and the Schuylkill United Way to install free smoke detectors in their borough's next month.
On Wednesday evening, both boroughs held their monthly meeting with both fire chiefs announcing the project.
Scheduled for Friday, May 10th, 2024, representatives from the American Red Cross and Schuylkill United Way and members of the fire department will be in both boroughs to install free smoke alarms and CO detectors.
Those wishing to get on the list to have them installed, should contact their borough halls. Up to 4 detectors are allowed to be installed in each home and they must be installed by the volunteers.
Contact information:
- Ashland Borough Hall: (570) 875-2411
- Girardville Borough Hall:(570) 276-1635
Outside of this event, both chiefs also urged borough residents to call their borough halls to get added to the list of free detectors. Both departments usually have extra detectors available and are always willing to install them to keep their borough's residents safe.
