Charles E Hornberger, age 90, formerly of Barry Twp, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - E Norwegian, Pottsville.

He was born on Sunday, January 28, 1934, in Hegins, a son of the late George Hornberger and the late Cora (Smith) Hornberger.

Charlie was a 1952 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School.

He was a coal miner, worked in construction, and ended his career as a trade instructor at the Frackville State Prison .

He was a member of Calvary Chapel, Valley View.

Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and camping..

His wife, Sarah J (Lesher) Hornberger passed away in 2020. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Aaron and Emily Hornberger, two brothers, Albert Hornberger and Larry Hornberger, and two sisters, Elma Scheib and Charlotte Talbot.

He is survived by a son, Gary Hornberger and his wife Kathy of Hegins; two daughters, Donna Hornberger of Barry Twp and Linda Wagner and her husband Daniel of Hegins; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Hornberger of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 11:00 am, with Jonathan Hikes officiating.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. John's "Kimmel's" Cemetery, Barry Twp.

Bernice K. Snyder
, age 86 formerly of Pitman, passed away on April 10, 2024 at Ecumenical Retirement Community in Harrisburg.

Born January 19, 1938 in Rough and Ready, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Vida (Kelly) Dietz.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Snyder, and a brother, Dennis Dietz.

She is survived by a brother, Ronald Dietz (Deanna), a sister in law, Shirley Dietz, wife of Dennis; son Michael Snyder (Kelly) and daughter Bonnie Bixler (Keith); four grandchildren, Julia Becker (Michael), Emily Bixler (Brandon), Alexander Snyder (Nikki), and Jonathan Snyder (Courtney), four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bern was a 1955 graduate of Tri-Valley High School and earned bachelors and masters degrees from Bloomsburg Teachers College.

She was a member of Zion EC Church, Pitman, where she helped with Missionary Society, Good News Club, and the Piecemakers Quilt group.

She was an active member of the Pitman Fire Company Auxiliary, serving as Treasurer and receiving an award for her years of service.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 11 am, at Zion EC Church, Pitman, with Rev. Todd Wolfe officiating. Visitation will be held form 10 am to 11 am on Wednesday at the church.

Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Rough and Ready.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mahantongo Fire Company, 102 Main Road, P.O. Box 99, Pitman PA 17964 or Zion Evangelical Church; 247 Zion Church Rd, Pitman, PA 17964.

Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Inc, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.

Dominick C. "Nick" Acri
, 70 of Pottsville, died peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem.

He was born July 4, 1953, in Berwick the son of the late Dominick C., Sr. and Mona Knouse Acri.

He was a 1971 graduate of Berwick Area High School.

Nick worked many jobs including Rydler Decal, St. Clair, ALCOA, Cressona, Cott Beverages, Reading, PALRAM, Allentown and CPSI.

Nick was a member of the former Evangelical United Methodist Church, and the First United Methodist Church, both of Pottsville, and was a former Scout Master for Troop 624, Orwigsburg. He also played the accordion and keyboards in numerous bands and loved photography.

He was preceded in death by four infant grandchildren, Colby, Kelsey, Avery, Casey

Surviving are his wife with whom he would have celebrated 48 years of marriage with on April 24th, Beverly Shollenberger Acri; two sons, Charles Acri and his wife Laura, Pottstown; Kevin Acri and his wife Emily, Lebanon; a grandson, Toby; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Tuesday at the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, with Rev. John Wallace officiating. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 6-8PM Monday and from 10AM until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Nick be made to the American Heart Association 4250 Crums Mill Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
