Bernadine “Bernie” T. Mahalage, passed away on March 27 at the age of 96. Born Oct 20, 1927 in Mahanoy City, a graduate of Mahanoy City HS, Bernie raised her family there and was a proud resident of the town.She was an excellent cook and took pride in her cooking and delivered countless meals to family and friends. She was generous with her time and resources for those in need.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John ‘Doc’ Mahalage and son, John ‘Pete’ Mahalage, Jr., brothers, Joseph, Edward and Francis Maceiunas, sisters Mary Maceiunas and Leona Schappel.
Bernie is survived by daughter Paula Mahalage Hopkins, 2 granddaughters Nichole Mahalage, Devon and her husband David Parker, and great grandchildren Gavin and Vivian Parker.
Bernie was an avid animal lover and therefore, please consider making a donation in her memory to Hillside SPCA, Memorial Honors, PO Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901.

Spencer "Pete" G. Pope, Jr., 98, of Pottsville, passed away on Monday, April 15th, at Providence Place, Pottsville.
Born in Mahanoy City, on October 31, 1925, he was a son of the late Spencer G. and Bertha (Seligman) Pope, Sr.
He was a 1943 graduate of Pottsville High School; Culver Military Academy, Culver, Indiana; Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania; and the Dealer Management course at General Motors Institute, Flint , MI.
Pete proudly served in the United States Army Air Corp from 1944-1946.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Pottsville, where he served as superintendent, elder, trustee, and Sunday School teacher.
Pete was the owner and CEO of Pope Motor Company, a Buick, Pontiac, GMC Truck Franchise. He was President of Pope Leasing Co. and National Finance Co.
He was very active in the Pottsville community. He was a Director and Chairman of the Board for the Miner National Bank and its successor, the Heritage Bank and the Bank's holding company, serving for 31 years. He was formerly on the United Way Board and served two terms on the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce Board and President of the Benevolent Association, which ran the Pottsville Children's Home.
Pete was a Rotarian for over 50 years and a 32nd Mason in the Pulaski Lodge 216 and Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg. He was a member of the Schuylkill Country Club, the former Pottsville Club, Schuylkill County Historical Society, and the Yorkville Hose Company. He was an Eagle Scout and former Cub Master.
He was an antique car enthusiast and belonged to numerous car clubs and most enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, on August 30, 2015, to whom he was married 64 years; and sons: William A. and James R. Pope.
Pete is survived by two sons: Spencer G. Pope III, of Auburn; Andrew R. Pope, husband of Denise, of Pottsville; daughter-in-law, Kris Pope; and 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Services and interment in Charles Baber Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.

Karen Ann Fetterolf, age 77, formerly of Hegins, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born May 21, 1946 in Pottsville, a daughter of the late Joseph and Vergie Ferron.
Karen was also preceded in death by her late husband Richard Joseph Fetterolf Jr, and a late companion Steve E. Deeter.
Karen is survived by her loving son, William Robert Fetterolf (Tina) and her two loving daughters Debra Crawford (Steve Bryant) and Gloria Nunemacher (late Lee A. Nunemacher Jr.)
Grandsons William Robert Fetterolf Jr, Joshua Michael Harman, (Alyssa), Skylar Bowman, Ryan Reightler (LeAnn) and Jamie Reightler (Katie). Great Grandsons Cameron Harman, Mason and Kayden Fetterolf, Grayson Rummel, Mackenzie, Makelvey, Jackson and Grant Reightler, Chelsea Sherman. Two brothers Joe Ferron (Diane) and the late Dale Buffington (Sara), also many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Karen loved spending time with family, and her grand puppy Harley, going to church, reading, crocheting, swimming, playing games, going to Knobels amusement park, the beach and spending
time at Tremont Senior Center. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Inc, Valley View, on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 4:00 pm, with Rev. Suzanne Elliott officiating.
A viewing will be held from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown.
