Marie E. Konstas
, mother, grandmother, sister, 87 years of age, of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Geisinger St. Luke's hospital Orwigsburg.

Born Friday, May 8, 1936 in Frackville, the daughter of the late Michael, and Elizabeth (Vargo) Thomas. Marie was also predeceased by; her beloved husband of 64 years, Gus P. "Deano" Konstas, sister, Arlene L. McGeehan.

Surviving are daughters, Diane M. Konstas of Mt. Alto, Cheryl A. Kabana and her husband Ronald of Tamaqua; sister, June Warner of Tamaqua ; grandchildren whom she adored, Nicolai, and Anthony.

A graduate of the former St. Jerome High School, Marie was an active member of Trinity U.C.C. of Tamaqua assisting the catering society for many years. Retiring from Laneco having worked in the Bakery, Marie previously worked in the textile Industry, and assisted Deano in the operation of the Texas Lunch, a 3 generation Tamaqua Landmark.

Marie, and Deano enjoyed listening to Polka's, and dancing at the former Lake Side Ballroom. Marie looked forward to playing bingo, and trips to the casino with Sister June, and Deano. Decorating her home for holiday gatherings, making cookies with the assistance of her grandsons, and her infamous "Half Coconut Easter Cake" for Deano liked coconut and the rest of the family did not. Summer vacations to SeaSide Heights where always the highlight of the year, strolling the boardwalk and eating her favorite treat zeppole

Funeral Service will be held on Monday April 22, 2024 at 11 o'clock A.M. from Trinity U.C.C, 22 Lafayette Street Tamaqua Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.

Interment will be in Sky-View Memorial Park, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.

Samuel “Slippery Sam” Alonge, 71, of Tamaqua died unexpectedly on Monday, April 15, 2024, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Maggie (Demyanovich) Alonge who passed away in 2019.

Born September 12, 1952, Sam was the son of the late Samuel and Sultana (Dardas) Alonge. A 1970 graduate of Panther Valley High School, he was a lifelong musician, playing in several local bands since his teenage years. He was best known for The Mudflaps and It Takes Two. Sam was a loving and caring father and grandfather. His life was enriched by music; and in his recent years, he loved to travel.

Sam is survived by a daughter, Sally Alonge, her partner Ryan Matalavage of Tamaqua; grandchildren, Thaddeus, Axel, and Charlotte; girlfriend, Jill Hargus of Allentown; a sister, Tony Schucavage of Pottsville; and several nieces and great nephews. He touched the lives of many and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held at 5 PM on Monday, April 22, in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 101 North Greenwood Street, Tamaqua with Rev. Cindy White officiating. Call Sunday, April 21 from 6 to 9 PM at the Zizelman-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Richard L. Welker, 77, of White Haven, died Saturday, April 6, 2024, in Kidder Township. He was the husband of Suzanne (Hope) Welker.

Born in Coaldale, Richard was the son of Wilmer and Kathryn (Walters) Welker. A 1965 graduate of Marion Catholic High School, he served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Richard was a member of The Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania and was active as a tradition keeper of his culture. He served as council vice president and was Assistant Tribal Chief from 2001 to 2004. Richard was instrumental in the preservation of the Black Creek Lenape Village Site, now registered as a National Historic Site in Vernon, NJ. He was a founding member of Turtle Island singers and a member of Icthy Dog Singers. Richard was also Lead Veteran Dancer at Lenape pow wows. He was employed as a truck driver for Sunoco and was a member of the Freeland American Legion Post #473.

Richard is survived by two sons, Travis and his fiancé Victoria Smith of Hazle Township and Vance and his wife Carole of Statesville, North Carolina; grandchildren Evelyn Grace Welker, Jakoby Colon, and Eric Johnson; a sister Donna Hollenbach of Lancaster; and one nephew.

Services with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on April 29, 2024, at 12:30 PM.

George E. Maurer, 95, of Mabel Road, Ashland, passed away with family by his side at his residence, Tuesday, April, 16, 2024.

The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, will announce funeral arrangements.

Lawrence Lewis, of Orwigsburg passed away on Saturday April 13th, 2024 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill. He was born in New York, New York and raised in the Bronx. After graduating high school he enlisted in the Army and proudly served in Vietnam. Upon his return home, he was stationed in California where he met his beloved wife Linda and they fell deeply in love. They continued to live in Southern California with their son Michael until the early 90’s. After they moved to Pennsylvania, they operated a local delicatessen shop, Pop’s Deli, and became proprietors throughout Schuylkill County.

Lawrence was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He enjoyed traveling as much as possible around the world and on various cruises with his wife and closest friends. Amongst his favorite pastimes, was enjoying a baseball game with his son and grandson. Cheering on his Yankees-loudly and proudly! He enjoyed western history, movies and was a proud supporter of the armed forces. Larry had an infectious smile and loved to tell jokes to make his grandchildren laugh.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Ilsley, son Michael P. Ilsley, his parents, friends Theresa Kozlusky, Paul Rea and Bobby Bainbridge.

He is survived by his grandchildren Christina Marmolejo, Maximos Ilsley, Catherine Ilsley, Michaela Ilsley, and great-grandson William Dixson. Extended family members Kathleen Ciofoletti, Renee Narkowitcz, Carol Bainbridge, Deana and Tabitha Rea, Tina Kozlusky, Ray Kozlusky, Kristie Ondisco, Carlos and Cynthia Estrada and many other friends, family and neighbors. Many thanks to the nurses and staff at Luther Ridge at Seider’s Hill that cared for Larry.

The family will accept visitors at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street Minersville, on Friday from 8:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held in Mount Peace Cemetery, Branch Township. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions to the Michael Ilsley Foundation c/o Port Carbon Little League, P.O. Box 135, Port Carbon, PA 17965.
