In a show of community and athleticism, nearly 3,000 runners took part in the annual Yuengling Light Lager Jogger 5K in Pottsville on Saturday morning.
The event, held on Saturday, saw participants from various backgrounds come together to support Team Red, White, and Blue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the health and wellness of veterans.
Team RWB opened the event around 8:00am when their Old Glory Relay arrived at the Yuengling Brewery. Team RWB set out from Philadelphia at Friday's nights Phillies game where their members began carrying the American Flag. Throughout the night, the flag was passed along until it made its way to Pottsville.
The flag was carried through the race, before continuing on its journey. The relay will continue westward where it will find it destination on Armed Forces Day at the Chicago Cubs game on May 18th, 2024.
The race, which kicked off at the Yuengling Brewery, followed a 3.1 mile course that through that followed Mahantango Street, West Norwegian Street, South 22nd Street, back on Mahantango, South 20th Street, Howard Avenue, then back down Mahantango Street to the brewery.
Debbie Yuengling, representing the brewery, greeted runners at the start and finish line, setting the tone for the event. Notably, Jennifer Yuengling, a customary fixture in starting the race, joined the ranks of participants this year, running the race with Team RWB.
The race's emcee, John Dunn from T102, kept the music pumping throughout the race while Erin Hammer led racers in a pre-race stretch. Dale Verchick sang the National Anthem.
Following the race, attendees reconvened at the brewery for a well-deserved post-race celebration. The festivities featured a performance by rock band Hooligan.

2,486 participants braved the course, with Kyle Price from New Jersey emerging as the overall and men's winner. Price completed the 5K in an impressive 17 minutes and 12 seconds, surpassing his previous 2023 finish time. Ryley Schwalm of Coopersburg, a North Schuylkill graduate, claimed victory in the women's category, finishing with a time of 19 minutes and 31 seconds.
