Naked Trespasser Caught Sleeping in Pottsville Home

A naked man was found sleeping in a home Thursday afternoon in Pottsville.

According to Pottsville Police, on Thursday, May 9th, 2024, around 4:30pm, Pottsville Police Units were dispatched to an address on Cottage Hill West Road for a breaking and entering.

Further information from dispatch revealed an unknown male was found sleeping in the sunroom of the caller's home.

Upon our arrival officers located the male known to police as, Christopher Tobias, 37, sleeping naked in the victim's home.

Tobias was immediately taken into custody at which time he uttered "I didn't take anything."

A search of Tobias' jacket which was on the couch next to him yielded 2 glass smoking pipes with burnt residue which was suspected as Methamphetamines, a Schedule II controlled substance. Tobias apparently had boxers which were laying on the floor from where he was found. No other clothing or shoes were located.

Further investigation revealed sometime between 2:30pm and 4:15pm, Tobias entered the victim's home while him and his family were present.

After advising Tobias of his Miranda Warnings he agreed to provide a statement.

Upon questioning Tobias, he stated he walked up from the bike path through the wooded area behind the home and the rest of his clothes were somewhere in the woods. Tobias reportedly entered the home through an unlocked door to the rear of the home. Tobias stated he heard people talking when he entered the home. Tobias further admitted he did not have permission to enter or remain inside the home.

Tobias indicated he did not know the property owner and claimed he was inside the residence for a few minutes. Tobias also admitted ingesting Methamphetamines earlier in the day and referred to the substance as his "medicine."

Tobias was transported to City Hall where his personal belongings (coat, and 2 cards) were secured.

Sgt. Renee Truscott completed a criminal complaint requesting a warrant for the arrest of Christopher Tobias for Criminal Trespass (F3), Persistent Disorderly Conduct (M3) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (M).

Tobias was taken before on-call Magisterial District Judge David Plachko for his preliminary arraignment via face time and he was later remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $100,000.00 straight cash bail.
