Pottsville Man Arrested for Strangulation and Assault After Domestic Incident


A Pottsville man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on strangulation and assault charges after a domestic incident early Monday.

According to Pottsville Police, on Monday May 27, 2024, around 2:20am, city police officers responded to 304 Fairview Street in reference to a domestic disturbance in progress. 

While en-route to this location, officers were advised the male suspect involved, later identified as Dezmond Sharmar Reams, 30, of Pottsville had left the residence. 

Reams was observed by officers who attempted to stop him however he attempted to flee on foot and was taken into custody pursuant to a domestic violence arrest. 

The investigation revealed that Reams, physically attacked, the victim with who was in a relationship with where he placed both hands around her neck in an attempt to choke her while sitting on top of her. 

Reams was charged with Strangulation, Simple Assault and Harassment and committed to Schuylkill County Prison after being unable to post $5000 straight cash bail.
