Reckless Driving Leads to Crash in Pottsville: Driver Cited


A driver was cited for an early morning crash in the city of Pottsville.

According to Pottsville Police, on Thursday May 30th, 2024, around 12:30am, officers responded to a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Laurel Blvd and North Second St. 

Upon arrival, officers found a Mazda with heavy front-end damage after the vehicle struck a PP&L utility pole at the intersection. 

The driver, identified as Damien Malone, age 23, of Pottsville, was interviewed and admitted to driving the vehicle in a reckless manner causing him to lose control while turning left from Laurel Blvd onto North Second St. 

Police were able to obtain video surveillance footage which confirmed Malone failed to stop at the stop sign located at Laurel Blvd and Second St and was also traveling a high rate of speed at the time of the motor vehicle accident. 

Due to the driver’s actions, he will be cited for Careless Driving and failure to stop at a stop sign. 

The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. 

The Pottsville Fire Department assisted the during this accident investigation. Pottsville EMS were called to assist however both the driver and his passenger, a 24-year-old female from Pottsville, who refused any medical attention at the scene.
