Schuylkill County Students Awarded Trade School Scholarships from Hydro Cressona

The Hydro Cressona plant recently awarded four $10,000 (renewable) trade school scholarships to Schuylkill County students during its second annual Trade Scholarship awards presentation.

This initiative is part of Hydro's effort to support education and workforce development in the community.

The scholarship recipients for this year were:
  • Jake Sekellick, a 2023 graduate of Minersville School District, who will attend Pennsylvania College of Technology to study Electrical Technology.
  • Tyler Heim, a 2023 graduate of Tri-Valley School District, who will attend Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology to study Electro-Mechanical Technology (Mechatronics).
  • Aiden Elo, a 2022 graduate of Pottsville School District, who will attend Pennsylvania College of Technology to study Electrical Technology.
  • Nick Meridionale, a 2024 graduate of North Schuylkill School District, who will attend Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology to study Electro-Mechanical Technology.
The scholarships are part of Hydro's broader initiative to foster career development in the trades, which are essential for industries like Hydro's. The scholarship program not only provides financial assistance but also offers practical training opportunities. Recipients will have the chance to work with Hydro during summer or winter breaks and will be considered for open positions upon graduation.

Looking ahead, Hydro plans to expand the scholarship program to include more schools and majors, still focused on trades, for the coming year. Students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship program next year and can reach out to their guidance counselors for more information.

Hydro’s purpose is to create more viable societies by developing natural resources into products and solutions in innovative and efficient ways. The company’s values—Care, Courage, and Collaboration—are reflected in this scholarship initiative. By supporting local students, Hydro aims to contribute to the community and ensure a skilled workforce for the future.

The company looks forward to collaborating with these scholarship awardees throughout their training and welcoming them to the Hydro team as they embark on their careers.
