Tornado Reportedly Rips Through West End of Mahanoy City Leaving Trail of Damage

A reported tornado caused a trail of damage Monday evening in the borough of Mahanoy City.

The storm pushed through the borough around 7:45pm and knocked out power, downed trees, and ripped roofs off of homes.

As of 8:45pm, an emergency command post is setup in the Dollar General parking lot where Schuylkill County Emergency Management is also set up as the damage is surveyed.

The west end of the borough is also without power and West Centre Street is closed.

According to radio dispatch, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado moved through the area at that time.

UPDATE: (9:30pm) - The Mahanoy Area School District is CLOSED Tuesday due to the storm damage.

UPDATE: (9:50pm) - PPL is reported 636 homes are without power in Mahanoy City.
