Tamaqua Summerfest Set For Father’s Day Sunday

The Tamaqua Summerfest is returning this Sunday to South Railroad Street.

On Sunday, from 10 AM to 5 PM, crafters, street vendors, and food vendors will line both sides of South Railroad Street between West Broad Street and Spruce Street. To accommodate the festival, the street will be closed to traffic, allowing visitors to stroll down the center. There will be no vendors set up on the sidewalks along Broad Street.

The Summerfest will feature a variety of attractions spread across downtown, including the Tamaqua Historical Society Museum, Tamaqua Railroad Station, the 1848 Hegarty Blacksmith Shop, the new Tamaqua Wagon Works Museum, and the Tamaqua Anthracite Model Railroad Club’s operating H.O. scale train layout. Additionally, local establishments such as downtown restaurants, craft breweries, Tinks Antiques, the Tamaqua Public Library, St. Luke’s Emergicare, and other businesses will open their doors to festival-goers.

Highlights of the event include scenic train rides departing from the Tamaqua Railroad Station at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM, and Lehigh Anthracite mining bus tours at 9 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM. The festivities will also feature the Tamaqua Fire Police Rubber Ducky Race on the river, an array of food vendors, amusement games, a giant bounce house, caricature paintings, face painting, and live entertainment. Performers include WMGH Radio’s Polka Joe and the Magic Polka Machine, DJ Shawn Frederickson, the Faculty Brass Band, and Buster the Clown. Additional attractions include a vintage coal truck and Leiby's Carriage Service horse-drawn trolley car rides.

While the event will not feature a car show this year, attendees can still enjoy a rich variety of activities and entertainment. Tickets for the Reading and Northern Railroad train rides and the Lehigh Anthracite bus tours can be purchased in advance at Tink's Antiques on South Railroad Street on Saturday from 11 AM to 5 PM. Any remaining tickets will be available on Sunday at the Railroad Station for the train rides, and at the bus boarding location in front of Tommy's Italian Restaurant for the bus tours.

The Tamaqua Summerfest, organized annually by the Tamaqua Historical Society, is held rain or shine. It promises to be a perfect outing for Father’s Day, offering fun for the entire family and serving as Tamaqua’s official kickoff to the summer season.
