Authorities Conclude Search for Missing Kayaker at A-Hole Near Girardville

As of midday Tuesday, emergency personnel have cleared the scene after searching at the A-Hole near Girardville for a missing person. 

On May 28th, 2024, emergency personnel and dive teams were called to the "A-Hole" and popular water hole/stripping pit, for a reported missing kayaker.

On the original dispatch, it was advised that the caller stated they were kayaking with a friend when one of them went missing.  The caller reportedly went searching and found the friend's kayak overturned in the water, with no one else around.

The identity of the missing kayaker would later be revealed to be 42-year-old Donald Hamaker.

For the past 3 weeks, divers and search teams have been back at the scene nearly a dozen times searching for Hamaker.

According to Girardville Fire Chief Frank Zangari, who has been coordinating with State Police, UTV Teams, Dive Teams, and others.

Zangari said midday Wednesday that the searching for Hamaker has officially ended.  "We've all we can with the best teams, equipment, and technology in Pennsylvania.  We will return if we receive any information or developments. "

Zangari could not comment for the Pennsylvania State Police but he did say the investigation is ongoing.

Chief Zangari thanked all of the first responders that participated in the search which also included a search on Father's Day from 8:00am until 5:00pm.
