Driver Flown After Overnight Crash near Centralia

The driver of a vehicle was flown to an area hospital after a crash near Centralia early Thursday.

Around 2:00am, Thursday, emergency personnel were called to a crash with partial ejection along Route 61 between Centralia and Mount Carmel.

Emergency personnel found a vehicle off the roadway into the woods.

The driver had to be cut from the vehicle and transported to a landing zone and flown to an area hospital.

During the landing zone, a potential disaster was averted.  As Life Flight attempted to land, the dry conditions created a dust cloud.  The first attempt was aborted and firefighters hosed down the dirt to eliminate the dust.

The helicopter was then able to land without a problem to transport the victim.
