On Sunday, the Frackville Elks celebrated their annual Flag Day Ceremony, a tradition for over 30 years.
The event featured both indoor and outdoor activities, highlighting the significance of the American flag and honoring those who have served the country.
During the indoor portion of the service, the Ashland Boy Scouts and a Frackville Girl Scout assisted with presenting the history of the American flag. The ceremony was marked by the presence of special guest speaker William Roland from Pittsburgh, who currently serves as the Pennsylvania State Junior Vice Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A special moment in the ceremony was the recognition of Frackville Girl Scout Ava Antz, of Shenandoah Heights, who received the Girl Scout Gold Award. This is the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve, celebrating her dedication and accomplishments.
After the indoor service, attendees moved outside for the flag-raising ceremony. The American flag, Prisoner of War flag, and Pennsylvania state flag were all proudly hoisted. The event also saw the dedication of a new battlefield cross memorial, positioned in front of the Frackville Elks. This dedication was made possible with the support of members from the Ashland, McAdoo, Auburn, and Coaldale Veterans of Foreign Wars posts.
