Residents Urged to Report Tornado Damages in Mahanoy Township/Mahanoy City By Thursday

Residents affected by the EF 1 Tornado that struck Mahanoy Township and Mahanoy City Borough on May 27, 2024, are urged to report damages by Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Damage reports should be submitted to the Mahanoy City Borough Hall or the Schuylkill County Office of Emergency Management, which can be reached at 570-622-3739.

As of June 5, 2024, reports indicate that the tornado caused damage to four businesses and 27 residences in the affected areas. The majority of these damages are being addressed through private insurance coverage. Residents with concerns or questions regarding their homeowners insurance can contact The Pennsylvania Insurance Department at 1-877-881-6388 or visit their website for more information.

Despite the collected damage reports, it has been determined that the extent of the damages does not meet the criteria for federal disaster funding.

Emergency Management staff and local officials have conducted thorough reviews of the damage reports and relevant program requirements.

To support those without insurance coverage, the Schuylkill County Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) is stepping up to aid uninsured homeowners in their recovery efforts.

The COAD is a collaborative partnership among government entities, voluntary groups, private sector, and non-profit organizations. This partnership aims to organize and deliver essential services to community members impacted by disasters in the county. More information about Schuylkill County COAD can be found at Schuylkill County COAD.

The COAD will work closely with a Disaster Care Manager to assist uninsured residents in coordinating the necessary resources for home repairs.
