Carolyn Rauenzahn, 86, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024.
Born on January 5, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Quinn.
On August 22, 1959 she married John Rauenzahn. Inseparable, they were married for 61 years before he passed on January 5, 2020.
Surviving are her two daughters, Lisa (Christopher) Panus and Karen (George) Bennethum, three grandchildren, Andrew Panus, John Panus, and Samantha (Chandler) Liero and one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Liero.
She was predeceased by a sister Frances Deel and is survived by a brother Edward (Sharon) Quinn.
Carolyn was a graduate of Minersville High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in education from Millersville University and a Master’s degree from Marywood University. Carolyn spent the majority of her teaching career as a dedicated third grade teacher in the Schuylkill Haven Area School District. A teacher who believed every child had talent and worth, she strove to instill a sense of pride and perseverance in all her students.
In addition to teaching, Carolyn faithfully served her churches, St. John’s United Church of Christ and Paul’s Summerhill UCC.
Carolyn was blessed with wonderful friendships from childhood, church, school, dinner club, and the “Dunkin” crowd. She also formed enduring friendships on travels with John to Florida and Maine. Among Carolyn’s many talents and chic sense of style, she is especially remembered by her daughters as an exceptional cook who effortlessly made every family meal and gathering into a special occasion.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 28, 2024 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ of Summer Hill with Pastor Kenneth McDowell officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:30 AM until the time of services.
Flora E. Ptaszkowski, 42, Shenandoah passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 20, 2024.
Born in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Ronald Ptaszkowski and Betty Flickinger.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents and paternal and maternal grandparents.
She enjoyed music and spending time in the outdoors.
Flora is survived by her two sons and three daughters: John Tempalski, Gavin Smith, Destiny Tempalski, Daisia Smith and Lily Kline, her four sisters: Crystal Dillman, Lita Rector, Roxanne Rector and Tiffany Ptaszkowski
Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Barbara S. Yanoshik, 82, of Lofty, passed away at her home on Sunday, after battling pancreatic cancer. Barbara was the beloved wife of John ‘Pete’ Yanoshik, with whom she recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Born in Palmerton, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Susan E. (Evanko) Hadnagy. She was an identical twin and remained best friends to her beloved sister, Patricia.
Barbara was a dedicated parishioner of Church of All Saints, McAdoo. She was a member of the Prime Timers and church cleaning group. Barbara was a devout Catholic and had a special dedication to the Blessed Mother. For many years, she led a monthly prayer group in her home.
Barbara was a 1960 graduate of Marian Catholic High School. Prior to marriage, she worked at Western Electric in Allentown, and several garment factories. She also worked part time for Avendale Farms.
Barbara had a “green thumb” and was proud of her flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed traveling with her husband on the many bus trips sponsored by the Prime Timers, and cruises with the Cruisers Car Club.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother but her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She was thrilled to learn that she was about to become a great-grandmother in October 2024.
Surviving are her husband, John ‘Pete’ Yanoshik; daughter; Anna Maria ‘Amy’ Lewandowski and husband Don of Whitehall; and daughter, Barbara Ann Dubyk of Perkasie; grandchildren, Sgt. Zachary Homlish, USMC Reserves and wife Erica of Virginia; John M. Dubyk and wife Brooke of Quakertown; Dr. Katie Dubyk Cowden and husband William of Dublin; Andrew Homlish and wife, Allison of Whitehall; and Matthew Dubyk of Perkasie; Step-grandchildren, Master Sgt. Matthew Lewandowski, US Army, and wife Courtney of North Carolina; Zackery Lewandowski and wife Erica of Allentown; Identical twin sister, Patricia, of Bethlehem; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024. Rev. Barnabas Shayo will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial in Church of All Saints, McAdoo, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery, McAdoo.
A calling hour will be held Thursday, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the church.

Carmel M. Quinter, 89, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Saturday, June 22nd, at Geisinger St. Luke's Orwigsburg.
Carmel was born in New Foundland, Canada, on December 4, 1934, a daughter of the late Kathleen (Doran) and John Robson.
Deacon Andrew Anthony Sabados Sr., 81, (Andy), of Kernersville, NC, passed into God's loving arms on Monday, June 17, 2024, surrounded by family. He was born in Pottsville on July 4, 1942, to the late Andrew Paul Sabados and Regina Bernosky Sabados. He was a resident of Hamilton Square for 60 years and a member of Saint Gregory the Great Church since 1967. Andy was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend but his greatest role was as a grandfather and great grandfather, affectionately called Jiddu. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
A graduate of Nativity B.V.M. High School and Trenton State University. Andy served in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country. He was employed by Coca-Cola Foods for over 30 years as the Northeast Quality Assurance Manager and then became an ordained deacon in May of 1998. When Andy was not with his family or at work, he devoted all his time to his ministry serving the Holy Name Society, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Parish Counsel, Bereavement Ministry, Nursing Home Services, Adult Leader for the Youth Group, and the Carnival at Saint Gregory the Great. Andy was so well loved within the church community that was routinely called upon to officiate baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
Andy was an avid sports fan and closely followed his Philadelphia home teams. Upon moving to North Carolina he adopted his family's home team, the Carolina Hurricanes. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling and going to hockey games with his family and participating in his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events. One of his favorite things was celebrating special occasions where he was surrounded by his entire family.
In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by two siblings, Jimmy and Teresa.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Grace Ann Sophy Sabados; loving children, Lisa Ann Caruso, Michaelene Greenly Poston and Andrew Sabados Jr.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Andy is also survived by two brothers and a sister; John Sabados, Maryann Terway, and Joseph Sabados; nieces and nephews.
Services were held in North Carolina.

She graduated in Canada from Presenter School and went on to further her education in Business school.
She was employed in the office of Dr. Dankmeyer for many years and also worked for the Newfoundland Government when she lived in Canada.
She is survived by her two Grandchildren Nicole Kovich, wife of John and Justin Quinter, husband of Cari. Carmel's great grandchildren are Kaylee, Darren & Gabriel
She was predeceased by her son Bradd Quinter in 2019.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday July 3rd at 10:30 AM at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Schuylkill Haven, with Rev. Msgr. Edward S. Zemanik officiating. There will be a visitation with family, in the church chapel from 9:15 to 10:15. Interment will follow at St. Ambrose Mausoleum Schuylkill Haven.

John P. “Jack” Slatick, 85 of Harrisburg formerly of Shenandoah passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center, Camp Hill.
Born in Shenandoah on February 21, 1939, he was a son of the late Peter and Anna (Bartasiewicz) Slatick.
Jack was a 1956 graduate the former Shenandoah Catholic High School.
Mr. Slatick was a decorated Army veteran. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the Marksman (Rifle M-14) Badge.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) as an analyst.
Jack was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah and the former Saint Stanislaus Church. He was a generous benefactor and volunteer especially for the annual bazaars and other parish fundraisers. He was also a member of the Men of Malvern. In addition, he was a volunteer for Pinnacle Hospital and the YMCA, both in Harrisburg. Jack had a kind and generous spirit and was always considerate of others.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was his brother, Eugene Slatick.
Surviving are his niece, Carol Slatick of Silver Spring, Maryland and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside religious services with military honors on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 10:00 in Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Francis J. Mione (Frank or Hank), 79, of Tower City passed away very suddenly Sunday, June 23, 2024 at his home.
Born in Pottsville, May 12, 1945, a son of the late Frank D. and Helen Black Mione.
Upon his death Hank was attempting to enter Archangel School under the name Hank-El. However he has been unable to pass any of the entrance exams. So much for that idea. Plan number two is to have a pair of angels take him on a tour of the universe. His late wife May Kay Mione, having been married to Hank for 57 years when she passed away in 2022, laughed at these plans and believed he will end up elsewhere.
Hank graduated from Toms River High School, NJ in 1963 and enlisted in the marines. He was stationed at 8th Infantry in Washington DC after graduating boot camp.
Hank was assigned to the Presidential Honor Guard and Marine Corps Silent Drill Team. He was also photographed for the Marine Corps National Recruiting Poster which appeared nationwide.
After being discharged in 1967, he joined the Prince George County Police Department. The death of a child a few years later (William A. Mione) led the Miones to Tower City where his ancestors has been located for over 100 years.
Hank was an avid hunter and fisherman until his later years when health slowed him down. He was a extremely prolific turkey hunter and was the 1990 PA State Turkey Calling Champion and traveled many states hunting turkeys.
He made his career as a Prudential Insurance Agent, serving the valley for many years. Hank also was the former owner of Frank's Sunoco & Bait Box in Reinerton.
His faithful companion Baxter, a huge black lab, could be seen riding with him in the Baxtermobile and all over town and Greenland, hanging out the window.
Hank was an avid Notre Dame fan. He listened to his 1st game in 1952 when they played Army and was hooked with the help from the nuns at St. Joseph's School in Key West Florida.
He was a faithful Catholic and a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Chapel, Tower City.
Although not one to show it, he loved his family tremendously: sons, Frank, Jr. and Danny, and daughter Gina. He especially loved and was proud of his grandchildren, Bill, Mike, Nick, Sabrina, Samantha, and Sophia. All had a special place in his heart. Then came the great grandchildren, Lillian, Oliver, and Kinsley. He is also survived by his sister, Andrea.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM from Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tower City. Viewing will be from 10-11. Hank will be laid to rest with military honors in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Williamstown.

Albert Motz, 86, of Lehighton, formerly Tamaqua, died suddenly on Saturday, June 22, 2024, with his family and fiancé, Geraldine, (Geri) Citrone, present.
Born in Simpson, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Stungis) Maceiunas (Motz). Albert served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War Era. He worked as a car inspector for Reading, Conrail and Norfolk Southern Railroads for 38 years before retirement in 1999. A tried and true “Dutch Hiller,” Albert was part of the Soley’s hunting gang, and famous for his enormous presence, quick wit, and fun personality. A skilled fiddler, he had many friends who gathered often to “pick and play” his favorite bluegrass music. Albert was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and fisherman who excelled at training dogs. He was a long-time member of the Carbon County Beagle Club and spent 30 years living and maintaining the facility and grounds. In addition to his work with beagles, Albert was known for his impressive gardens, often sharing his bounty with friends and those less fortunate, making sure nothing went to waste. A proud Lithuanian, he was of strong catholic faith.
Albert is survived by his daughter, Shaleen and her husband Brian Klusman, his fiancé, Geri Citrone, their beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Abby, and four nephews, Leon Motz of East Stroudsburg, Justin Motz of Macungie, and John and Thomas Maceiunas of Texas and their families.
He was predeceased by his brothers Leon and John Motz.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 29, in the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Call Saturday from 9-11 AM at the funeral home.
