An Ashland man is facing charges after he broke into a house in the borough Tuesday morning.
According to court papers, Ashland police have filed charges against Chris Sheppard, 53, of Ashland for an incident that occurred Tuesday, July 9th, 2024.
Police Chief Ger Daley wrote in his affidavit that on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024, around 8:30am, he received a direct call from a borough resident, who stated he had someone at gunpoint in his kitchen.
Chief Daley responded and entered the home where her found a black male, later identified as Sheppard, in the kitchen, facing the wall, and wedged behind the oven. The male was ordered out from behind the oven and taken into custody.
The resident told Chief Daley that he came downstairs that morning and found glass all over his living room. When he went into the kitchen and opened his back door, he heard a male say "hey". The male, Sheppard, while hiding behind the stove was reported to have been holding two large kitchen knives.
The resident immediately grabbed his firearm and held Sheppard at gunpoint until Chief Daley arrived.
While in custody, Sheppard made multiple statements that people were after him and that he didn't feel safe and had jumped through the window.
Chief Daley later went to Sheppard's home and spoke with his girlfriend who said none of what he said was true and that he had ran out of the house that morning wearing only a pair of pants. She didn't know where he was going.
Sheppard was transported to the hospital by Washington Ambulance for lacerations and a mental health evaluation.
Chief Daley has filed charges of burglary, criminal trespass, possessing the instrument of a crime, and criminal mischief against Sheppard through Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli's office.
Arraignment is pending Sheppard's release from the hospital.
