Big Diamond to Race Georgie Stevenson Memorial This Friday

After an unfortunate rainout last Friday night, the Big Diamond Speedway will race the Georgie Stevenson Memorial this Friday night, July 12th.

The big show will consist of Twin 20’s for the Quandel Concrete Modifieds with each feature paying a separate set of points towards the season long title. The USS Achey, Inc 602 Crate Sportsman are also on the racing card along the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunners running the “Full Fender Frenzy” which was rescheduled after being rained out on May 10th. Rounding out the night will be the annual spectacular Big Diamond Fireworks display.

Friday night’s show will be run in honor of Georgie Stevenson who was an avid fan of the Big Diamond Speedway along with his family. Georgie and his family supported the speedway religiously each week. Sadly, Georgie was diagnosed with cancer at a young age and while fighting the dreaded disease, the young man worked hard to raise money for cancer research. Georgie’s battle with cancer concluded at the age of twelve when the courageous young man passed away. Georgie loved the sport of dirt racing especially at his home track, the Big Diamond Speedway.

After Georgie’s passing, his father George worked relentlessly to raise money for the terminally ill children who were also suffering from cancer. The Stevenson family’s goal was to help defray the costs of treatment and to also help the families to deal with anything that was thrown at them. Sadly, George died in 2015 but the Stevenson family’s presence radiates through the speedway with the annual running of the Georgie Stevenson Memorial.

The Quandel Concrete Modifieds will race not one but TWO 20 lap feature events paying $2,000 to win each 20-lap feature. Each 20-lap race will pay a separate set of points toward the Quandel Concrete Modified championship which is currently led by Louden Reimert by only 4 points over 2023 champion Brett Kressley. Modified rookie driver Logan Watt sits in third with Duane Howard and Eddie Strada in the top five.

The first modified 20-lap feature will be set via the track's normal handicapping procedure. The second 20-lap race will line up after the winner of the first race draws a number for the invert. All drivers after the invert number will be lined up as per their finish from the first race. B&H Landscaping has put up a $2,500 bonus to the driver who can sweep both feature races. Watt Racing has put up a $100 bonus to the driver who advances the most combined spots from both races! The Big Diamond Dog Pound will also give out a $250 bonus for the 13th place finish in each modified feature.

The USS Achey, Inc 602 Crate Sportsman will also be in action on Friday night racing a 20-lap feature race. The 602 Crate Sportsman competition is top notch with multiple winners throughout the season. Defending 602 Crate champion Jordan Henn has moved to the top of the championship standings after his first win of the year on June 28th with Jax Yohn, Kevin Olenick, Colin Cox and Matt Martino the top five. The 602 Crates will also have some bonuses available on Friday night with Watt Racing paying $100 to the feature hard charger. The Big Diamond Dog Pound will also hand out a $100 bonus to the 13th place finisher in the 602 Crate Feature.

This Friday night the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunner will race in the Full Fender Frenzy which was postponed from May 10th. The Full Fender Frenzy will consist of the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunner racing against the Selinsgrove Speedway Roadrunners and the BAPS Motor Speedway Extreme Stocks in a 25-lap feature event paying $1,000 to the winner. All cars must follow their home track rules. This will be a draw/redraw format with the redraw based on car count. The Full Fender Frenzy will have the following bonuses available. Reckless Beetles N Skulls will offer $150 to the hard charger of the race along with a $50 bonus to the first invader across the finish line. Watt Racing will also be giving out $100 to the hard charger of the race. $100 will also be given out to the 13th place finisher courtesy of the Big Diamond Dog Pound.

A huge Fireworks display will also be on tap for Friday night to celebrate America’s Birthday.
