Elderly Woman Dies from Minersville Crash Injuries

A crash in Minersville on Friday morning has turned fatal.


According to Minersville Police Chief Jeffrey Bowers, the crash occurred Friday morning around 9:00am in the area of Sunbury Road and River Street.

The initial dispatch was for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. 

Chief Bowers said a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck, driven by Joseph Ostrowsky, 85, of Pottsville was traveling west on the Seltzer Highway and approaching a small bus owned by Geisinger Health. The Ram truck failed to stop and collided with the bus at a high rate of speed, pushing the bus approximately 22 feet into the intersection and trapping a passenger, 85-year-old, Dolores Ostrowsky, also of Pottsville.

Joseph Ostrowsky suffered moderate injuries. 

Dolores Ostrowsky was extricated from the Ram and flown to Geisinger Danville where she died from her injuries. 

The operator of the bus, a passenger in a wheelchair on the bus were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Minersville Police Department.
