On Sunday, the Holy Ascension Orthodox Church in Frackville hosted a vehicle blessing event that saw the participation of dozens of vehicles, including emergency apparatus and other vehicles.
The event followed the celebration of Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. and marked the annual blessing of vehicles, a tradition observed on the feast day of the Prophet Elijah. This year's event coincided with the Archpastoral visit of His Eminence, Archbishop Mark, Archbishop of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania. His Eminence served as the main celebrant for the Divine Liturgy, alongside the parish’s new rector and native of the Coal Region, Fr. Kirill Zawatski.
The blessings took place immediately after the Divine Liturgy, around 11:30 a.m., with representatives from Frackville’s local first-responders and neighboring towns in Schuylkill County bringing their service vehicles for the blessing.
