Jerome “Jerry” I. Hranchock, 81, of Mohrsville, passed away on July 17, 2024, at Reading Hospital.

Born in Pottsville on December 26, 1942, he was the son of the late Steven and Anna (Davis) Hranchock.

After completing his GED, Jerry enlisted into the Marine Corps where he proudly served his country and earned an E1 ranking. After leaving the Marines, Jerry worked as a Quality Control Specialists in many different factories. In his free time, he had a passion for hunting, fishing, shooting pool, and had an undeniable love for music. Jerry adored spending time with his friends and family, and would read to Eleanor, his lifelong partner, every night.

In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his sister Glynis (Hranchock) Rosoado and grandson, Tristian Hunt.

Surviving is his loving partner, Eleanor Umburger, Mohrsville; daughter, Lynn Bierman, Pottsville; son, Jerome Hranchock, Pottsville; brothers Curt Hranchock and wife Rose Minersville, Michael Dillon and wife Rhonda, OH; sisters, Roseanne Kimmel, Pottsville, Lorraine Johnson and husband Dusty, OH, and Janet Payne and husband John, OH; step-daughter, Kimberly Hunt, wife of Rob, Montana; step-son, Galen “Bud” Umberger, California; his beloved dog, Wizard; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Private cremation services have been entrusted to Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Pottsville.

The family asks to make donations to the Salvation Army in memory of Jerry.

Genevieve “Gen” Pecina
, 100, of Minersville, passed away on June 15, 2024 in assisted living in Laguna Hills, Ca. where she lived near her daughter for the last six years.

Born in Minersville, she was the daughter of Joseph Stefanavage and Constance (Drogalis) Soditus. Gen was a graduate of Minersville Area High School; and worked at the Philadelphia Naval Yard after high school before returning to Minersville to marry and begin a family. Gen worked at a finance company in Pottsville and later in the garment warehouse in Minersville.

Gen was an avid walker, frequenting the track at the Minersville Little League baseball park daily with her friends to keep fit. She also loved cooking and baking her family’s time-tested Lithuanian recipes.

She was a member of the former St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where she was an officer and active member of the Woman’s Sodality.

In addition to her parents, Gen was preceded in death by her husband Bill Pecina, her son, Jerry Neveras and her sister, Olga Eiler.

Gen is survived by her daughter, Cindi Pecina Machuzick and her husband John Machuzick, of San Clemente, Ca. and the love of her life, her grandson, Mark Machuzick of Fairfax, Va.

The family will accept visitors at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 541 Sunbury Street, Minersville on Friday July 26, 2024 from 8:15 A.M. Visitation will end promptly at 8:45 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, where she will be buried with her husband, Bill.

Alice Berkheiser
, 102 of Pottsville, died Friday, July 12th at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

She was born June 3, 1922, in Palo Alto a daughter of the late John ad Marian Haffey Oldt.

She was a graduate of Pottsville High School.

Alice worked as a seamstress for numerous textile factories in the area prior to retiring.

Alice was the oldest member of the United Presbyterian Church, Pottsville, Service Circle of the Kings Daughter's where she served as Chaplin, was knitted baby caps along with the late Leah Shugars at the former Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Chester Berkheiser, on November 8, 1983; a granddaughter Angie Haas; 4 brothers, Edward, Jack Albert and Richard Oldt; a sister, Marian Lacey.

Surviving are her children, Barbara Haas, Jim Thorpe; Robert Berkheiser and his wife Cathy, Allentown; Glen Berkheiser and his companion Kathy Huntzinger, Auburn; Debbie Berkheiser and her husband Randy Kull, Lewis, DE; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday July 27 at 11AM from the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10AM until the time of services. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Alice be made to United Presbyterian Church, 214 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
