Kenneth G. "KZ" Zimmerman
, 86, of Lebanon, formerly of Pine Grove, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024 in Spang Crest Manor Nursing Home, Lebanon.

Born on August 3, 1937 in Reading, he was a son of the late Walter G. and Ruth A. Schwalm Zimmerman.

Kenneth was a 1955 graduate of Pine Grove High School and graduated from Millersville University and then Temple University with his Masters Degree.

He was a teacher at Cedar Crest High School and HACC in Lebanon. He taught Astronomy, Earth and Space Science, and was the director of the planetarium.

Kenneth was a member of Quentin United Church of Christ.

He was an avid coin collector and a member of the Pinegrove Historical Society.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Marie Schach Zimmerman; a son, Keane Zimmerman of the Phillipines; two daughters, Judy and husband Miroslaw Gardyasz of Grantville, Kathy McCoy of Harrisburg; 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth and husband Mike Harrison, Abe and wife Izzie Zimmerman, Benjamin Zimmerman, Kristin and husband Kevin Rhie, Kimmy and husband Alex Egbert, Alyssa and husband Anthony SanSeverino, Meghan and husband David Keyworth, Keegan and wife Amy McCoy, Ryne McCoy, ChristiAnna Zimmerman, and Faith Zimmerman; many great grandchildren.

All Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to either the Pinegrove Historical Society, P. O Box 65, 205 N. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, PA 17963 or the Quentin United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1138, Quentin, Pa. 17083 or online at www.quentinucc.org in his memory.

Bradley R. "Tulip" Artz
, 71, of Orwin, passed away Monday, July 1, 2024 at his home where he resided for the past 53 years.

Born in Pottsville, December 31, 1952, a son of the late Leon and Ruth Hand Artz. He was a 1970 graduate of Williams Valley High School.

Tulip work for ZEMCO, Williamstown for over 20 years. Following his time at ZEMCO, he began working at Walmart, Elizabethville, when the store opened in 2007. He retired in 2021 on his 50th wedding anniversary to Rana.

He enjoyed working in his garden and watching racing and HGTV. He also like doing craft projects. Tulip and Rana enjoyed collecting antiques, and he was a vendor at local antiques shops for several years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Nathan Artz, May 21, 2007; a sister Sandy Miller, 2020; a brother-in-law, Carl Rothermel, 2003.

Surviving are his wife and soulmate of 53 years, Rana Heberling Artz; his daughter Heather Martin and her husband Billy, Tower City; a grandson, Nikolas Martin; a sister, Connie Rothermel; a brother-in-law, Roy Miller; his beloved dog and faithful companion, Hershey; two nephews, a niece, and numerous cousins.

Services will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc., Tower City with Rev. Maureen Duffy-Guy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Cemetery, Orwin. Viewing will be at the chapel from 10-11.

The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice Care for the care given to Tulip.

Boris Louis Poppoff
, 78, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024, at his home in Phineyville (Ringtown) with his family at his side.

Boris was born August 17, 1945, at Women’s Hospital in New York City. He is the son of Louis Poppoff and Veronica Tarutis. His Parents met and married in New York City and established several restaurants and dance clubs in the Times Square and the Rego Park Queens areas of New York.

After the untimely death of his father in 1952, the family relocated to his mother’s hometown of Shenandoah.

Boris attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School in New York and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1965 when he was immediately drafted into the Navy. He served in Vietnam for 2 years and trained with Special Forces. He returned to Shenandoah in 1967. For the next ten years, Boris worked at several jobs, most in the coal mining and construction industries.

Boris will best be remembered for the successful tavern business he established in Mahanoy City (1976) and Shenandoah (1977) as American Saloons. Better known as “Boris’s”, many couples first met there and married. In 1990-91, he passed on management of the bar to the popular “RJ’s” run by Joe Sherako.

After several changes in the management of the bar, the business was sold in 2022. Boris relocated from Shenandoah moving to Ringtown.

During his hiatus from business management, Boris worked as a certified welder for Dana Corp. in Reading and Alstom Power in Easton.

Boris had a zest for life and his charm won him many friends over the years. He and his wife were able to travel extensively including the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Jamaca, and most recently Cape Cod and New Orleans. He was fond of, and most often visited Miami, Key West, Hawaii and especially Las Vegas where he and his buddies would frequent the casinos shooting craps. Boris is known for his “hard 4” dice roll. Boris was an ardent skier and snow boarder back in the day traveling to Colorado and Vermont with the gang. He was a great fan of basketball following the NBA teams, especially the 76er’s, every season. He was also an accomplished marksman.

Boris was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Patricia Nitolo, nephews Samuel and Louis Nitolo all of Shenandoah.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marie, a step-son, Jack Cesareo in Philadelphia, a brother, Louis, a sister, Denise with her two sons, and the many nephews, great nieces, and great nephews of the Nitolo Family.

Boris’s wish is for all his friends, foes, and acquaintances to know that he enjoyed every minute with them and that each and every person who passed through his life made it a masterpiece. Thank you, everyone!

Friends may pay their respects at Oravitz Home for Funerals, 40 North Jardin Street, Shenandoah, Pa. 17976, on Monday, July 8th from 9-11 AM followed by a Memorial Service at 11 AM. Interment will be at Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery.

William F. "Butch" Fritz
, 69 years of age, of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 1, 2024, at home.

Born Friday, October 1, 1954 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania the son of the late Beatrice (Kenner) Trevorah - Smith. Butch was also predeceased by; brothers, Rich Trevorah, Albert Trevorah, and his beloved Springer Spaniel Toby.

Surviving are daughters, Nadine Fritz, Carrie Marrero and her finance Anthony Colosi; brother, Gary Trevorah and his wife Edith; sisters, Jane L. McCormick and her husband John "CY" , Judy Hill; grandchildren who affectionately called his pop-pop, Tyler Fritz-Marrero, and Gabriella Marrero. Many nieces and nephews also survive Butch.

Retired from Hart Metals of Tamaqua, Butch enjoyed fishing, playing chess and was an avid New York Giants fan.

Private interment will be in Sky-View Memorial Park, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.

Carol Ann Neifert
, 61, of Orwigsburg, passed away Sunday, June 30th, at St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem.

She was born in Pottsville on August 9, 1962, a daughter of the late Edward & LaVerne (Neade) Hallick.

Carol graduated from Blue Mountain High School with the Class of 1980.

She was the wife of Kenneth Carl Neifert, married for 43 years.

Carol was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven.

Her primary occupation was a homemaker while raising her children, but had worked various jobs through the years.

Carol enjoyed going to the beach with her family, some of her favorite beaches were Wildwood Crest, Cape May, and especially Aruba. She also loved bike riding, spending time with her grandchildren, and enjoyed classic movies and TV shows.

In addition to her husband, Carol is also survived by a son, Stephen, husband of Doreen Neifert, of Massachusetts two daughters, Cheryl Ann Neifert, of Virginia; & Michelle Lynn Neifert, of Pennsylvania; two grandsons: Tyler, & Kyle Neifert; a brother, Edward, husband of Iva Hallick, of Lake Wynonah.

A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday July 5, at Geschwindt Stabingas Ebling Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven. A viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
