Zulakha M. Rodrigues
, 74, of Lake Wynonah passed away Friday, July 26th, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.

Born in Berbice, Guyana on June 26, 1950, she was a daughter of the late Mohamed Yusuf Ramjohn & Khyroon (Yusoof) Ramjohn.

Married 48 years, she was the loving wife of Brian I. Rodrigues.

As a skilled Registered Nurse, Zulakha worked in home healthcare, nursing homes, several hospitals and as a teacher for anyone in need.

Zulakha was a member at Schuylkill Christian Church.

She loved her community and was a giving, selfless person. Zulakha would give the shirt off her back to a complete stranger if in need. She also loved gardening and spreading joy with everyone she met.

In addition to her husband she is also survived by two daughters: Jana Rodrigues, of Reading, PA; & Raina Rodrigues, of Tampa, FL. She is also survived by two grandchildren: Jalen & Jade, several siblings, nieces, & nephews.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, July 31st at Geschwindt Stabingas Ebling Funeral Home, Inc., Schuylkill Haven. A viewing will be held from 10:30 AM until the time of service.

Interment will be privately held.

Judith M. Kaplafka
, 71, of Lost Creek passed away peacefully Saturday at Schuylkill Manor, Pottsville.

Born in Ashland she was a daughter of the late Andrew P. and Marie Coyle Kaplafka.

She had been employed as a meat cutter at the former Anthony’s Supermarket and later as the district manager for the former Fashion Bug.

She was of the Catholic faith and was a 1970 graduate of North Schuylkill High School.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her companion Brian Flannigan.

Judith is survived by her brother Ronald Kaplafka, FL, her sisters; Janice Anthony and Andrea Eye both of Frackville and by several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31st at St Ann’s Catholic Church, Frackville with Rev. Giuseppe Esposito, pastor , as the celebrant. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 until time of mass. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fountain Springs.

Former Tamaqua Mayor, Frank (Hap) Walton, 88 years of age of Tamaqua, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

Born March 22, 1936, the son of the late Robert Leon, and Margaret M. (Nahf) Walton. Frank was predeceased by; son, Jefferson Lindon Walton; sisters, Ruth Walton and Marion Miller; and brother Robert Walton.

Surviving are: his beloved wife of 54 years, Lois M. (Buck) Walton; daughters Cynthia J. Viel, Amy L. Mateyak, Allison L. Morrison wife of Jarrett; son Bradley F. Walton; sister Gale Gagliardi; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A 1954 graduate of Tamaqua High School, Frank served honorably in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Forrest Sherman after attending the U.S. Navy Turbine School. Upon his return home, Frank began a 30 year career at Bethlehem Steel working as a Boiler Technician and Mill Wright - retiring in 1986. Frank then worked as Sales Manager at the former Rottett Motors in Tamaqua, where he was always one of the first to drive the newest model Mustang!

A member of Trinity U.C.C. of Tamaqua, Frank served on the church consistory and was Chair of the Property Committee. Frank belonged to the Coalcracker Barbershop Chorus of Barnesville, Tamaqua American Legion, American Hose FD, and the U.S.S. Forrest Sherman Association.

Frank proudly served as Tamaqua's Mayor from 1996-1998 and was on the zoning board for many years. A politician at heart, Frank was known to be a sharp dresser, always wearing a suit coat, while toting a hat (even at the gym!). He was an automobile enthusiast - often attended car shows and enjoyed driving around in his antique cars, Mustang convertible, or on his motorcycle. Most of all Frank was a family man, enjoying nothing more than spending time with his family -- especially his grandchildren and great-grand children.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday August 2, 2024 at 1 o'clock P.M. from Trinity United Church of Christ located at 22 Lafayette St. Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252. Friends may call from 11:30 A.M. until the time of services. Military honors will be bestowed.
