Swift Action by Firefighters Contains Ashland House Fire: Used Fireworks in Garbage Suspected as Cause

Emergency personnel responded to a working fire in Ashland early Saturday.

Just after 3:15am, Saturday, emergency personnel were called to 227 Chesnut Street in Ashland for a house fire.

Ashland's fire chiefs were the first on scene and reported a fire on the exterior wall of the home extending into the home with the house filling with smoke.

Firefighters responded from Ashland, Girardville, and Lavelle and had the fire under control within minutes of arrival.

It was determined that the fire started in a bag of garbage alongside the home that spread to the siding, then into the home.  It was believed that used fireworks were disposed into the garbage that led to the fire.

All emergency personnel were clear of the scene within an hour.
