Ashland Borough Provides Update on Light Pole Replacement Project

An update on the ongoing light pole replacement project in Ashland Borough was provided by Sam Snyder, a representative from the borough, following discussions with PPL.

The project gained urgency after several utility poles in the area unexpectedly fell into Centre Street, raising safety concerns among residents and traffic.

PPL conducted an inspection of all 319 utility poles within Ashland. Of these, seven poles have already been replaced due to their particularly poor condition. However, while the poles themselves have been installed, the arms that hold the lights are currently on a 12-16 week backorder, meaning that these new poles do not yet have functioning lights.

Looking ahead, 50 more poles are identified as needing replacement. Once all the necessary poles are replaced, the borough plans to upgrade the lighting along Centre Street with modern LED lights.

All the poles will be replaced with fiberglass, offering a more durable and long-lasting solution.

Notably, the entire upgrade, including the replacement of utility poles and the transition to LED lighting, comes at no cost to the borough.
