East Union Township Police Officers Rescue Woman and Two Dogs from Vehicle Crash


East Union Township Police rescued a woman and two dogs after a crash Tuesday afternoon.

According to East Union Township Police, on August 6th, 2024, around 3:00pm, Chief Christopher Dimmick and PTLM Douglas Litwhiler were dispatched to the 500 block of Main Blvd/Route 924 for the report of a motor vehicle accident. 

Upon arrival a dark Toyota Highlander was found over the guiderail and down an embankment and resting on its side. 

A female was crawling through a smashed window at this time and had managed to escape. The female said that she had two dogs trapped in the vehicle, Dimmick was able to reach into the vehicle and secure one of the dogs. 

Litwhiler then tended to the female and the dog for any injuries. The second dog was pinned by a seat near the front of the vehicle, Dimmick crawled into the vehicle through the smashed tailgate and managed to free and extract the second dog. 

The female was evaluated by EMS and transported to a hospital for further care. 

Steve's Towing of Shenandoah were able to retrieve the vehicle. 

The investigation concluded that wet road conditions and a bald front tire caused the crash.
